==Biography==
Doug debuted as a writer on the episode "[[Tea at the Treedome]]."

Doug Lawrence summarized Plankton's origins in {{Time|2015}}, saying that he "was only supposed to be in one or two episodes, but I was a writer on the show and I really liked this character."<ref name="lawrence">https://newspapers.com/newspage/138093814/</ref> Following his first voice recording as Plankton, Lawrence wrote some of his own ideas for the character and passed them to [[Stephen Hillenburg]].<ref name="lawrence"/> From then on, Plankton began to appear more often.

Doug Lawrence decided that Plankton and Karen should be an inseparable duo, with Karen as the brains of the operation, always supplying Plankton with evil plans. Lawrence said: "I want more Karen on the show ... Doug Lawrence was promoted to the show's main voice cast in the [[The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie (credits)|credits of the 2004 movie]] alongside [[Jill Talley]], who voices Karen. In season 10, he was promoted to story editor after [[Kyle McCulloch]] left the show. Also during season 10, Lawrence took over the voice role of [[Potty the Parrot]] following [[Paul Tibbitt]]'s departure.
