Template:Event The Dare to Be Square Sweepstakes was a contest held from October 24 to November 21, 2004, hosted by Paramount Pictures and Target.[1] The contest was based on The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie.
Entrants could enter the contest either in store through the drop box attached to the specialized display made for the contest in Target stores, Nick.com, or through mail.[2]
Prizes
Grand prize - a family vacation of four to Nickelodeon Studios; four winners
First prize - a life-size plush of SpongeBob; 1,315 winners; one per participating Target store, one from mail-in entries, and one from internet entries.
Second prize - SpongeBob SquarePants Play Packs; 400 winners
Third prize - $100 SpongeBob Target gift cards; 500 winners
Trivia
- Target had originally proposed the slogan "It's Hip to be Square" for its promotions for the film, such as this sweepstakes. Stephen Hillenburg, however, opposed this, saying "SpongeBob is not about being hip." His alternative ended being used instead.[3]
