Founders Day is an annual event at the Krusty Krab. The episode "What's Eating Patrick?" takes place on this day. It is known that it took place on a Sunday.

History

On Founders Day, Mr. Krabs hosts an eating contest. He is overjoyed by this because this is when he gets the most money out of every day of the year. Oswald McNulty has won the contest for several years in a row and was the defending champion. It turns out he wins because he just throws the Krabby Patties down his throat and does not taste them.

Patrick volunteers to represent Bikini Bottom in the eating contest and Mr. Krabs makes him train to the fullest. However, Patrick takes the extra seconds to taste the patties and struggles to eat more than five patties per minute.

After Mr. Krabs trains him, it is time for the contest and McNulty is winning by over one hundred patties. However, Patrick picks up the pace, eventually tying the contest.

Later, the score is tied, with both competitors at 999 patties. However, Ted's son puts a patty on Patrick's tongue, while he brings it into his mouth with his tongue.

Time runs out, meaning Patrick beats him by one Krabby Patty in the last few seconds.

A news flash then appears on television. An unbeatable challenger named [[Oswald McNulty]] has won every Krabby Patty eating contest, and beaten every single city champion except Bikini Bottom. Things take an even darker turn because the Bikini Bottom champion has retired. Mr. Krabs is devastated by the news, and believes he isn't going to get any revenue until he sees {{Link|Patrick}}, who comes in to order 40 Krabby Patties as a light lunch. Mr. Krabs then proposes that Patrick becomes the next Krabby Patty eating champion, and Patrick agrees. Mr. Krabs then begins Patrick's training by making him eat Krabby Patties. The contest is about to start, the crowd is outside of the Krusty Krab and two guards carry Oswald, who is sitting on a chair being lifted by the guards, then the crowd starts booing, including the boy with a broken foot and his father.

The contest begins, and Oswald is eating the patties already, but Patrick is struggling, and is barely eating any of the patties, Patrick looks in the crowd, seeing the boy with the broken foot cheering Patrick on, Patrick becomes encouraged by that, and then eats a whole entire plate of patties, Oswald starts eating faster, both of them start eating faster, all until they have one last patty to consume to win, but both stop. Oswald falls from his chair. Patrick tells SpongeBob he cannot continue, but SpongeBob reminds Patrick about the taste, then Patrick gets encouraged to eat the last Krabby Patty to win, then points to the boy with a broken foot, and the boy gives Patrick the last patty, Patrick eats the patty, then wins the contest.
