The guru is a fish who appears in the episode "Potato Puff."

Description

He is a thin and flexible brown Southeast Asian walking catfish with a fin on the back of his neck. He wears an orange toga and has a long gray beard. He meditates on a green carpet with golden edges and a circle in the middle.

Role in episode

After another failed attempt to teach SpongeBob to drive, Mrs. Puff calls him for guidance. He is meditating when he picks up the call from her. Mrs. Puff lets out some frustration and yells into the phone, and the guru almost falls off the hill he is on. As a solution to help SpongeBob learn how to drive properly, he suggests finding a way to "be with SpongeBob without being with SpongeBob." He ends the call and throws his phone off the hill, causing an explosion.

• The guru is a southeast Asian walking catfish, explaining his flexibility. Ian Vazquez said that "these things can wiggle on land with its pectoral fins which is why he's only got fin lines on his arms. These things are neat!..ᵃⁿᵈᶠʳᵉˢʰʷᵃᵗᵉʳᶠᶦˢʰ"
  • His character design is similar to and seems to reference Guru Pathik from Avatar: The Last Airbender, another show made by Nickelodeon, as Brian George voices both characters in both series.
