Character

Horace B. Magic is a corporate businessman who appears in the episode "Hocus Pocus" and "Krusty Katering." He lives at 1942 Wizard Street, Bikini Bottom and produces Mr. Magic's Magical Kits while masquerading as a powerful magician named Mr. Magic.

Description

He is a light blue fish with neon blue lips, a pale blue dorsal fin, and black hair. He wears yellow glasses and a suit with a black coat and a green tie.

Personality

Horace B. Magic is portrayed as a greedy corporate businessman. Much like Mr. Krabs, he seems to only care about making profits. However, he is not completely selfish, as he offers SpongeBob a refund for his magic kit.

Role in series

"Hocus Pocus"

When SpongeBob mistakenly believes he has turned Squidward into an ice cream cone, he and Patrick visit Mr. Magic and ask for his help. Patrick pulls back a curtain and discovers Horace sitting at a table talking into a microphone. They ask him who he is, and Horace explains that he is only selling magic kits to make profits and cannot help them with their problem. Distraught, SpongeBob calls him a "lying, corporate businessman, tainting the purity of magic with [his] corrupt commercial ways," to which Horace responds by having them kicked out by security.

"Krusty Katering"

He attends Ms. Mildred's party and is first seen swinging from a chandelier during the big food fight. He is later seen watching Mr. Krabs get launched out of Ms. Mildred's mansion with fireworks.

Trivia

  • His character is similar to the titular character in the 1939 film The Wizard of Oz.
  • There was a ten-year gap between his first appearance in the 2007 episode "Hocus Pocus" and his appearance in the 2017 episode "Krusty Katering."
  • His name can be read as "Horace be magic," which is ironic due to the fact that neither he nor his Mr. Magic persona are actually magical.
