— Farmer Jenkins, "The Sponge Who Could Fly"
|
Old Man Jenkins, also known as Incidental 80, is an incidental character who first appears in the episode "Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy." He is likely to be classified as an elderly-type incidental.
Description
He is an elderly pinkish gray fish with many wrinkles, red livers spots, and many hair strands on top of his head. He regularly lays in a hospital bed that is covered in a plaid army green blanket, although the design of the hospital bed he sits in appears to be inconsistent.
Names
- Old Man Jenkins is the most consistently used name for Incidental 80. It originated in "The Sponge Who Could Fly," and was readapted in Creature from the Krusty Krab, the storyboard for "The Flower Plot," and in production art for "Big Top Flop."
- Alternatively in "The Sponge Who Could Fly," he was referred as "Farmer Jenkins," "Sailor Jenkins," and "Cannonball Jenkins," while in the production art of "Big Top Flop" simply refers him as Jenkins. He also assumes the "Cannonball Jenkins" persona in the console versions of Lights, Camera, Pants!.
Role in series
Old Man Jenkins has made a few appearances throughout the series. He is not as common as other incidentals like most elderly incidentals due to normally being portrayed as a Shady Shoals Rest Home resident.

"The Sponge Who Could Fly"
He first appears as a farmer at his barn where he scolds SpongeBob and Patrick for ruining his silo with his "flying machine." He then gives up on farming and becomes a sailor instead where he nearly crashed into a burnt out lighthouse until SpongeBob replaced the lighthouse bulb allowing him to turn around only for him to crash into another rock and sink to the bottom of the sea. He lastly appears as a stuntman named "Cannonball Jenkins" where he launches himself out of a cannon and punches SpongeBob's inflatable pants causing him to fall onto the ground due to his pants exploding.
"Born to Be Wild"
He is part of the Mild Ones biker gang. He wears a leather jacket and a green helmet with a star on the front. He seems to be the leader of the gang, as he does most of the talking. When the bikers run into SpongeBob, he grabs onto his jacket and accidentally rips off the "M" in "Mild Ones." This makes him think that the group's name is the Wild Ones. At the end, he returns and introduces the gang to Squidward with their correct name. He also takes back his "M."
"Slide Whistle Stooges"
SpongeBob and Patrick play their slide whistles on his ventilator near the end of the episode, making them all laugh.
