Spur 3 - Unbekannter Interpret "Overprime.mp2"; 2008

File:Overprime.mp3

The song, circa 2008, found in a Crysis Wars map called 'Yome' made by ---___db___--- (David Berger)

Lost Song Info

This song is a mid-tempo, hard rock song sung by a male lead singer with strong guitar riffs in the intro, followed by drums and cymbals, believed to originate from 2008 or prior - with the filename given to the song being "Overprime.mp2" by the original creators[1] of the level it originated from. The song is 4:54 long. (4 minutes, 54 seconds)

The track contained metadeta which included the following information: The Title given was: Spur 3, which when translated from German simply means "Track 3"

The author is listed as: "Unbekannter Interpret" Which when translated from German simply means "Unknown Artist". Not much else is known about the song aside from the original metadata[2] and file hashes.

Attempts to identify the source track have gone unsuccessful, with one notable attempt[3] on Watzatsong and other music-identifying sites[4] and services, along with a YouTube video[5], failing to copyright nor content ID[6] the original song.

Known Lyrics

  • "Living life"
  • "I won't break away this time!"
  • "I won't scream, I won't fight, I won't search cause I can't find..."
  • Most of the lyrics are indecipherable due to how muted some of the vocals are.

Source

The source comes from a Crysis Wars map made in 2008 from the now-defunct site Crymod called 'Yome', which was an internet cafe building floating on a rocky island in space. The map was made by the known (at the time) Crysis modder called ---___db___--- who seems to have disappeared when the downloads section was removed in 2011, and then as of 2014 when the site vanished entirely. CryBusters and FantasyHaze also appear to have been involved, yet even with searching no records of their current whereabouts are known.

The map was archived and linked by the CryServ.de Crysis Wars modding community which resides on Discord, and was linked by alyx.one.

Known Leads

  • ErikEkholm - db himself was quoted as saying he is a "wonderful talent" and went on record as to say he used several of his tracks in his works[7]
  • Brickwall Audio - Though having a talent in Industrial house and electronic music, they also feature a Metal & Bass song on their Spotify playlist, further strengthening the above argument.[8]
  • David Berger[9] himself could potentially be the creator and/or lead singer. However, this seems unlikely; and since 2014 he has since dropped off the face of the internet.
  • Possible 1974 Garage band song
  • Unreleased Kurt Cobain song/tape
  • Early unreleased nickelback song
  • Underground garage rock from 2003-2008, or possibly even earlier (No known date except the original timestamp)

  7. Erik Ekholm worked on producing music for Crybusters and DB himself used many of his works: https://www.moddb.com/members/ErikEkholm#commentform#2321952 Quote: ---___db___--- Jul 13 2011 Erik is a wonderful talent. His strong compositions shine in his use of orchestra and his deep knowledge of electronic and industrial music. He proved to be a professional musician, composer, and arranger in one person. Moreover, his perfect musical taste and talent let him easily make virtual instruments sound real in a music piece, which always been a big challenge to any musician/producer especially in the gaming segment. I already used many of his tracks (Crybusters and more) but he surprises me over and over again. I look forward to hearing all the great things he will compose in future too!
