The Chum famine of '59 was a famine that most likely had taken place in 1959.

History

Mr. Krabs had referenced this in the episode "Hooky," stating that no employee of the Krusty Krab had taken a break since then. However, this was disproved in "Friend or Foe," as Mr. Krabs and Plankton were clearly making and eating chum when this famine supposedly happened. The Famine is again referenced in "Frozen Face-Off," when Mr. Krabs recalls being forced to eat Kelp during the famine, which he found "Kind of dry, but good."
