20,000 Patties Under the Sea

Plot

While jellyfishing in jellyfish fields, SpongeBob and Patrick encounter an object sticking out of the ground. They decided to dig it up, and they discover an old submarine. Meanwhile, at the Krusty Krab, Squidward and Mr. Krabs think of an idea, to bring the Krusty Krab to the customers. SpongeBob and Patrick drive the submarine into the Krusty Krab, which makes Mr. Krabs have SpongeBob and Patrick take the submarine and sell Krabby Patties. Seeing this, Plankton gets upset since he had the idea years ago. He takes the fist of the Chum Bucket and uses it as a mobile Chum Bucket.

SpongeBob and Patrick are unsuccessful with their first customers, so they offer to pay them. Meanwhile, Plankton attempts to sell food to a child, which he insults. The child's parents, great grandmother, Harold, and Jack M. Crazyfish throw rocks at him. Soon, they run out of rocks, but since Patrick wasn't paying attention to the Krabby Patties, they have turned to rocks. SpongeBob and Patrick are able to sell the rock patties, and then head off to sell more.

They fell into an abyss and woke up a sea monster, who has been asleep for the past 79 years. The monster purchases 640 Krabby Patties. Plankton comes along, and attempts to get the monster to refuse the Krabby Patties, but Plankton is mistaken for a dessert (a chocolate éclair) and the monster chases him away. Because they are down in the abyss, SpongeBob and Patrick have to let go of all the money they have earned. Instead they bring back 37,000 pounds of decorative undersea rocks, much to Mr. Krabs' disappointment.

Plankton: I think now you need to lose some weigth fatty, Yeah thats what it is

Granny: Hey you can't talk to my grandson like that way someone needs to put you in to mettle hospital.

Plankton: Someone needs to put you in a box floating down the river Grandma

Granny: You're probably right

Plankton: You people are crazy I'm out of here !!!

• The title is a spoof of Jules Verne's classic novel, "20,000 Leagues Under The Sea."

Trivia

• The sea monster is voiced by Gene Simmons who is well known for being the bass player for the band KISS.
• The mother who is insulted by Plankton is voiced by Simmon's partner Shannon Tweed.
• This episode reaired with "Krabby Road" when the latter premiered.
• When Squidward gives Mr. Krabs an idea about the bringing the Krusty Krab to the customers then the camera adjusts back to Squidward, the cashier boat is floating off the ground and then back on the floor in the next scene.
• This episode was set to premiere with "SpongeHenge" but aired with "The Battle of Bikini Bottom " instead.
• Mable's grandson was shown as the truck driver in "The Gift of Gum" and "Slide Whistle Stooges" In this episode, he also has his trucker's outfit.
• In the English version, the monster said he didn't eat for 79 years, but in the Netherlands he said 97 years.
• This epsode is a reference to the book "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea", by Jules Verne.
• When Plankton says "I had that idea years ago!" it's a reference to his appearance at the 2003 Kids Choice Awards.
• The salesman from Chocolate with Nuts returns in this episode, and cons SpongeBob and Patrick one more time, this time without even trying, as they hand him money for trying some Krabby Patties, it seems like he remembers SpongeBob and Patrick, as he says "Hey, thanks AGAIN guys." He is also shown to married, now.
• When Patrick gives the monster Krabby Patties, the patties are black, but originally they are brown.
• Even though SpongeBob and Patrick's submarine's hull is "breached", they are sea creatures so that means they didn't have to worry about the holes of the submarine.
• Patrick mentioned he had ears but weren't shown until No Nose Knows. His ear is also shown in A friendly Game.
• A scene showing a jellyfish swimming by was first used in the season 1 episode "Jellyfishing".
• Running gag: SpongeBob drives the submarine and bumps into the Krusty Krab, destroying the window.
• When SpongeBob says "I like Squidward," it could probably show that he has feelings for Squidward.

• If the submarine was that close to the abyss and could have made it to the end in that little time, then SpongeBob could have quickly seen the sign and turned the submarine around.
• The chum landed on the bottom patty with no top bun, however when the monster spotted it, a top bun was over it.
• It would be impossible for the submarine to miracouously fall to the bottom of the trench when it seemed to have more gasoline in it.
• Before Patrick said he landed on a rock, the rock wasn't there.
• It was a short distance between the grass in Jellyfish Fields to the submarine stuck in the ground but later the grass isn't seen.
• When the sea monster takes submarine off his head, the periscope at the top of the submarine is missing.
• The sea monster was asleep for 79 years. When he says the Krabby Patty was the best thing he ate since the thing he ate in '76 it sounds like a really big mistake but it really means that by '76, he meant 1876.
• Mable's husband says that the rocks are all gone, but in the next few shots, and SpongeBob gives the people the charred patties, there are rocks all over the ground.
• SpongeBob and Patrick seem scared that water is leaking into the submarine, but they live in water.
• When Mr. Krabs is talking to Squidward, the ordering boat is on the ground, but the next time they show Mr. Krabs it is floating off the ground, then it goes back to normal.
