Trivia
- The talent show is originally slated to be an annual event, but by the episode's end Mr. Krabs begins planning for the next week's show. It is possible that the talent show became so popular because of SpongeBob, that Mr. Krabs decided to change the show into a weekly event.
- Squidward yawns when he sees Spongebob's acts and says that nobody Not even Spongebob's parents or Patrick or the customers would like to see Spongebob's acts, however the customers liked seeing Spongebob mopping on the stage but they don't cheer for Squidward even when he mops. He probaly just thought that Spongebob's acts are not as good as his and thought Bikini bottom would agree with him.
- Bonus episodes are "Culture Shock", "MuscleBob BuffPants" and "Employee of the Month" in Home Sweet Pineapple on DVD.
- Reference in "Magical Mirror Starring Mickey Mouse": Flappy Dumbo and Paper Parrot.
- Before Squidward begins to dance, his light up signs are similar to Elvis's Las Vegas performances.
- Reference in "Gumby's 50th Anniversry Birthday Special": Gumby special Live.
- This is the second time there was a financial issue in the Krusty Krab, the first one was Pickles, the third one was
My Pretty Seahorse, the fourth was Best Frenemies, and the fifth was Mermaid Man vs. SpongeBob.
- For one second, when Mr.Krabs was rolling up the map, his right claw turns pink, then back to red.
- The curtains that are on the stage change color throughout the episode. In the beggining, the curtains are red, then when Mr. Krabs gets angry at Squidward, and he says he has "saved the best for last", the curtains are green. Then when Squidward is performing, the curtains are purple.
Cultural references
- When Spongebob and the hippopotamus are dancing, they are dancing in the exact same manner as Bob Hope and Bing Crosby in Road to Bali
- The music playing while the neon sign reading "Squidward Live" turns on is an obvious parody of Saturday Night Live.
- When Plankton tries to escape after being beaten by Mr. Krabs, this is a possible parody of action-adventure series Challenge of the Superfriends in which the Legion of Doom, after being beaten by the Justice League, would often evade capture via a last-minute escape plan.
