Plot

DoodleBob

At sea, a live-action human artist is drawing a sketch, when he accidentally throws his pencil into the sea, which makes him cry. The French Narrator then states the number one rule of the artist at sea: Always bring a spare pencil. SpongeBob and Patrick are playing "Rock, Paper, Scissors" using bubbles, when the pencil lands in between them. SpongeBob draws a Jellyfish... and it comes alive! They realize that it's a magic pencil, and begin pranking Squidward with it. SpongeBob and Patrick draw a Bikini dollar bill, and put it on Squidward's welcome mat and when he reaches for the bill, SpongeBob and his friend pull on the fishing line and pull the dollar away. SpongeBob then draws "DoodleBob ScaredyPants", a sketch version of himself intended to fool Squidward. However, DoodleBob begins beating Squidward up, steals the magic pencil, and wreaks havoc until SpongeBob erases him (the eraser end of the pencil is capable of erasing anything, not just drawings). However, the arm remains, and in the night it steals the pencil from SpongeBob and draws itself back. DoodleBob wakes up SpongeBob and attempts to erase him, and during the struggle the pencil is snapped in half (DoodleBob has the eraser and SpongeBob has the point). DoodleBob sharpens his half, so he has an eraser and a point, and the two begin dueling until SpongeBob accidentally throws his pencil out the window. DoodleBob corners him in front of a bookshelf, but steps on an open book, sealing his leg onto the paper. SpongeBob shuts the book on him, DoodleBob is trapped forever, and the page is framed on a wall. The pencil is propelled back to the artist who grabs it and continues drawing, but when he touches his canvas, the lead snaps. Then, The French Narrator announces the second rule of the artist at sea: Always bring a pencil sharpener.

DoodleBob: (repeats gibberish slowly. Sounded like "Bee-ba... Ba ha ba-ba.") He ea er ba bae!

(SpongeBob Erases Doodlebob's Face)

SpongeBob: Hold it doodle this is for your own good...( Erases Doodlebob) Take that! And that! And this that and this that and this that and this that and this that and this!

UAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH! I am Spongebob, destroyer of EVIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIL!

Patrick: Take it easy its just a drawing.

Spongebob: Well that takes it.

Patrick: Done and done!

• Squidward: (to himself) You've got looks, talent, all you need is a full head of... (Patrick's magic moustache lands on Squidward's head) HAIR!!!

• SpongeBob: There he is!

Patrick: He's hideous! He makes me sick just looking at him! Those bulging eyes. That square body. Those two buck teeth. And that stupid tie! (SpongeBob clears his throat) Oh, but it looks good on you, SpongeBob!

SpongeBob: Come on, let's go! (Patrick hides in a bush)

Patrick: I'm not going in there (SpongeBob also hides)

SpongeBob: Come on, Patrick. I'm right behind you. Baby steps. Almost there... (DoodleBob draws a hole. They fall into it.)

Patrick: What just happened?

DoodleBob: (blabing Gibberish)

SpongeBob: Come on, Patrick. Give me a boost up!

Patrick: Can't we just stay down here where it's safe?

• SpongeBob: I created this monster,and.I.gotta.stop.him!

(DoodleBob drops a wrench on Patrick's Head)

DoodleBob: (blabs in gibberish)

SpongeBob: See what I mean, Patrick?

Patrick: Where's the leak, ma'am?

(DoodleBob draws a Bowling ball on a rock and rolls it)

(Patrick gets hit with the bowling ball twice)

SpongeBob: Are you ok,Patrick?

Patrick: FINLAND!

• SpongeBob: I was voted most artistic in high school.

(Pencil crashes through a window and hits Squidward on the head)

Squidward: (offscreen) OW!! SpongeBob, you're gonna pay for that!!

SpongeBob: Or maybe it was most clumsy...

• SpongeBob: He was just a 2D creature, lost in our 3D aquatic world, longing for a purpose.

Patrick: So, he's a drawing?

SpongeBob: Exactly.

SpongeBob: He's putting down the pencil! This is our chance. On the count of three, we'll jump out and surprise him!

Patrick: Oh boy, a surprise party! Is it his birthday?

SpongeBob: Patrick! Patrick! Do something! (DoodleBob throws SpongeBob)

Patrick: Happy birthday! Here's your present! (DoodleBob bashes it on his head) You're welcome!

Trivia/Goofs

• This episode is number 8 on Tom Kenny's Top 20 on iTunes. His description says:

"SpongeBob creates an evil doodle of himself with a magic pencil he finds. I actually feel sorry for the 'monster' when he has to be erased. Another semi-creepy one! Producer Paul Tibbett [sic] does Frankendoodle's voice."

• Pencils, in reality, do not sink. They float.
• The title is a pun on both Frankenstein and doodle.
• When SpongeBob breaks the pencil, it is snapped in half, but after DoodleBob points SpongeBob with it after SpongeBob accidentally throws his half, the pencil was its regular length.
• Patrick suffers four concussions in this episode (all in the span of just over a minute), all at DoodleBob's hands.
• DoodleBob speaks in a primitive dialect, similar to the caveman talk used by SpongeGar, Patar, and Squog, in the episode ""Ugh".
• The person who voiced DoodleBob is Paul Tibbitt, one of the many people who provides additional voices on the show.
• DoodleBob also appeared in Nicktoons Unite.
• This episode marks the second time that Patrick insults SpongeBob's clothes, the first time being in "I'm with Stupid".
• At the start of the episode, the artist is seen making many strokes on the canvas. But when he gets his pencil back at the end of the episode, the canvas is blank.
• Patrick says "FINLAND!" on one part of the episode. This is a reference to the country in Northern Europe.
• When DoodleBob erases SpongeBob's pants, his butt is seen. But in "Nature Pants" and "Hooky", when SpongeBob is naked, he has no butt, though this could be for comedic effect.
• 12th episode to have flowers in the title card.
• There is a video game based on this episode called Drawn to Life: SpongeBob SquarePants Edition, which is a spin-off from Drawn to Life.
• When SpongeBob tapes the pencil together, the two halves fit perfectly even though one half is sharpened.
• SpongeBob is wearing his regular clothes in bed, while in other episodes, he wears his underwear to bed.
• The artist at sea is Mr. Lawrence, who voices Plankton.
• The DoodleBob has three fingers at first, but when his hand enter SpongeBob's bedrooom and takes the pencil, he has 4 fingers instead. After he redraws himself, he has three fingers again.
• The pencil shown in the live-action version is longer but the animated version is shorter. This is to make SpongeBob and Patrick easier to handle the pencil.
• The scene where DoodleBob rolls a bowling ball at Patrick, where Patrick has got a bowling-pin like head, has been parodied on YouTube with the quote "Who you calling pinhead?", reffering to Patrick's head in the scene. The quote comes originally from Survival of the Idiots.
• Originally in this episode Patrick said SpongeBob's drawing was "lower middle class" but it was changed to "lacks basic construction".
• The title card is simalar to "Oral Report".
• When SpongeBob says "Paper" near at the end of the episode his mouth doesn't move at all. This is because he was actually thinking the word.
