All That Glitters

Brief summary: During an intense day on the job, SpongeBob’s spatula breaks mid patty-flip, and he has to buy a new one. Soon, it refuses to make a Krabby Patty, and SpongeBob longs for his old spatula.

Plot

During an intense day on the job, SpongeBob’s spatula breaks mid patty-flip, due to an order for a Monster Krabby Patty. With his favorite kitchen implement out of commission, SpongeBob searches for a temporary replacement(even though he thought no spatula could replace Spat). SpongeBob finds “Le Spatula,” the latest in state-of-the-art cooking tool. The sleek and modern Le Spatula dazzles SpongeBob so completely that he will do anything to own one. But will this fancy gadget fill the void that was left by his old trusty spatula?

After selling everything (even his clothes) SpongeBob attains Le Spatula from the man from the store. He shows it off to Mr. Krabs, and, later, before it flips a patty, Le Spatula refuses. It says it is disgusting, and Le Spatula suddenly grows robotic legs and runs off. Mr. Krabs confronts SpongeBob, and SpongeBob runs off to the hospital, where old Spat lays.

The spatula suddenly runs out of life as SpongeBob watches, and SpongeBob cries in agony. Then a doctor appears, and, after some conversation, tells him that's not his spatula. Spat is in the infirmary. SpongeBob runs over to Spat, but Spat turns away from SpongeBob. SpongeBob cries he's sorry for buying Le Spatula, claiming it was his moment of weakness.

SpongeBob rolls in a fit of tears as he goes back to the Krusty Krab. SpongeBob cries in the kitchen, but suddenly, he hears patties flipping.

SpongeBob cries in joy. Apparently, Spat forgave him. Suddenly, another Monster Krabby Patty is ordered, and SpongeBob turns to Spat. The two try to hopefully succeed in flipping it.

Suddenly, SpongeBob's arms break off. SpongeBob ends up laughing, and the episode is over.

• Doctor: Oh I'm not a doctor. I'm an actor who is searching for a role. Yes! Woohoo! I am so totally gonna get this part! (Sighs)
• Mr Krabs: (Enters seeing SpongeBob in the nude) What the! Don't you have any shame, boy?!

• This is the second time SpongeBob's spatula breaks, the first was My Pretty Seahorse
• SpongeBob kills a character in this episode by throwing him off a cliff with his spatula, according to one of his memories with Spat.
• This episode was originally called "Obsession", but it was later changed to All That Glitters.
• The bathroom stalls have slanted tops, unlike in some other episodes.
• Someone hands SpongeBob the meat for the Monster Krabby Patty, it wasn't Squidward or any of the chracters.
• Le Spatula is a parody of Hal 9000 from the film 2001: Space Odyssey, where first, HAL and Le Spatula first seem to be live-machines, but soon, HAL and Le Spatula go onto their own plans, revealing to be villainous machines and later refuse orders from their commanders.
• The store owner, Fred who sells the spatula is dressed the same way when he offered Mr. Krabs one million dollars for the soda drink hat in One Krabs Trash, which could indicate that he is wealthy.
• Le Spatula speaks with a French accent, hence the name.
• Le Spatula refers the Krusty Krab as a 'greasy spoon'. In the song to the episode Welcome to the Chum Bucket, SpongeBob and Mr. Krabs sing the same thing.
• This episode re-aired with Squidtastic Voyage
• This episode breaks the fourth wall. When SpongeBob is rolling and sobbing, another SpongeBob appears on the screen and says, in a monotone voice, "All that glitters is not gold" because he bought a "shiny" new spatula but it was not "good as gold".
• Third time mistaken to be rated TV-Y7 for a nude appearance of SpongeBob naked in the hospital.
• When SpongeBob breaks the fourth wall, it is a parody of Shakespeare's play of the same name.
• SpongeBob stated he sold everything he owned towards Fred the bussinessman, does this mean he sold Gary?
• All That Glitters is one of the several episodes where Mr.Krabs is much more generous than villainous and greedy.
• Mr. Krabs and Squidward ask SpongeBob if he has any shame since he is naked, but Squidward never wears pants. Mr.Krabs would have shamed Squidward too.
• "All That Glitters Is Not Gold" means that there are far more beloved things than riches if you learn to appreciate them, which is the moral of this episode.
• The Monster Kraby Patty is a possible spoof of McDonald's short lived Hero Burger back in the 90's.
• Spat is also the name of an evil hamster in Hamtaro.
• The fish that sells Le Spatula is voiced by Tom Kenny
• This was the third time that Spongebob was naked.
