• When Spot chases after the fuel rod, the activating sound of a lightsaber from Star Wars is heard.
• There are 62 bottles in the title card.
• This episode references numerous past episodes:
  • SpongeBob being used as a window washer could be a reference to "Plankton Retires".
  • SpongeBob washing Mr. Krabs' first dollar is a reference to "Wet Painters."
  • Karen's "kissy face" screensaver from "Grandmum's the Word" reappears when she kisses Plankton.
  • When Squidward turns on the Krusty Krab's security footage, a drawing of DoodleBob can be seen on the bottom of the table, referencing both "Frankendoodle" and "Doodle Dimension."
  • SpongeBob mimicking Plankton is a reference to "Mimic Madness."
  • Plankton turning into a genie when he is trying to open the Krabby Patty formula is a reference to "Spin the Bottle."
  • Squidward's claustrophobia from "Wishing You Well" is brought up again in the ending.

• This is the third appearance of Spot, the first being in "Plankton's Pet" and the second being in "Spot Returns."
• This the fifth time SpongeBob's tears cause a flood. The previous four were "Grandma's Kisses", "Funny Pants", "A Day Without Tears", and "SpongeBob You're Fired.

Cultural references

• The boat that fell on top of Squidward is the RMS Titanic, a British passenger liner that sank in the Atlantic after colliding with an iceberg on April 15, 1912.
  • This is the Titanic's second appearance. The first was "Moving Bubble Bass".
• The movie Plankton is seen watching is the 1961 horror film Creature from the Haunted Sea.
• While Karen is in sleep mode, the floating shapes on her screen are a reference to the Mystify screensaver included in Windows XP and earlier.

Errors

• The opening credits say "animation director" when there are 2 animation directors.
• In one scene, inside the Chum Bucket, SpongeBob's eyelashes disappear.
