Chip I is Karen's paternal grandfather, Sheldon J. Plankton's grandfather-in-law's on his father-in-law's side, and Chip II Plankton's maternal great-grandfather on his maternal grandfather-in-law's side. He appears in the episode "Karen's Baby."

Chip I appears briefly on Karen's screen when she explains to Plankton that their baby is named after him because he is a chip.
