Firehouse Bob

"Firehouse Bob" is a SpongeBob SquarePants episode from season 15. In this episode, SpongeBob, Patrick, and Squidward feel the heat when they become volunteer firefighters

Synopsis

SpongeBob is looking for Gary around his house, then finds him stuck in a tall tree. He tries to get Gary to jump down, but to no avail. He pulls an emergency lever at the trunk of the tree, and the Fire Department immediately arrives. Old Man Walker slowly begins to climb a latter to the tree branch Gary is on. Gary slides down the latter. SpongeBob thanks Larry for saving Gary, and asks if he could be a fire fighter. but Larry says there are no opening available.

Old Man Walker then slips on the slime Gary produced on the latter and falls to the ground, shattering is skeleton. He is carried away by an ambulance. Seeing this, Larry reluctantly hires SpongeBob. The next day, SpongeBob arrives the Fire Department Building with Gary, now with his shell painted as a Dalmatian. Larry gives SpongeBob a tour of the building, showing him hoses and the bunkroom. As SpongeBob is bouncing on the beds, he finds Patrick is under one of them. Patrick is eager to start fires, but Larry quickly tells him that they put out fires.

SpongeBob runs over and sees the "first fire" which Larry reveals is the first fire they ever got called to. SpongeBob and Patrick try to slide down the poles, but Larry insists he tells them where each of them go. Patrick goes down the pole that leads to the bathroom. Larry shows SpongeBob the "mystery pole," which never goes to the same place twice.

Despite Larry's warning, SpongeBob goes down the pole, which leads him to dark void with several people and creatures screaming, a human firefighter's ears, and a dancing alien. He goes through several science tubes, a group of people partying, a monkey, and eventually makes it to the top of rollercoaster. He slides back down again, knocking off a person who is standing on the pole, to finally an imploding planet. SpongeBob returns back to Bikini Bottom, mortified. Larry snaps SpongeBob out of his daze by blowing his whistle.

Larry has all the volunteer firefighters line, up which now includes Squidward. He tells SpongeBob that Mr. Krabs was court mandated for this, but sent him in his stead. Larry begins Squidward, SpongeBob, and Patrick's training, which involves firehose skills and saving people inside buildings. Despite all their mistakes, Larry says they passed their training and makes them volunteer firefighters. Larry gets a call and tells them they have their first assignment, saving a pet in a tree.

They arrive to find Spot stuck in a tree. Plankton tries to send SpongeBob away, but they ignore him. Patrick attempts to go up the latter and save Spot, but Spot vomits over him, knocking him off. SpongeBob calls Larry and informs them of their troubles, to which Larry laughs and bangs on the wall. This causes the fire fire's containment to shake. Gary barks at Spot, and he comes down.

SpongeBob hears a fire alarm go off somewhere, and arrive to find the fire department up in flames. Larry screams for help and says the first fire escaped. They position a trampoline below Larry, but when he jumps, he only bounces to a higher place on the building. They then try to work the firehose, which they lose control of and land on the top of the building with Larry. They seem to have put out the fires, but the roof they're standing on collapses, and the fire begins again.

Gary calls in Old Man Walker for help. He arrives from the back of his ambulance and busts open the entrance to the fire department. He arrives from the smoke with SpongeBob, Patrick, Squidward, and Larry on his back. He takes the fire hose and easily puts out all the fires. SpongeBob comes back out of the building saying he saved the first fire. He immediately drops its containment and it bounces free, vaporizing the car and the fire department. Larry wonders if he should move to doing medical experiments, to which SpongeBob says he is also a volunteer doctor. Larry screams and runs away, SpongeBob chasing after him.

This episode was in production during spring 2024, as that was when Brandon Warren temporarily joined the main series.

• This episode was originally titled "The Bikini Bottom Volunteer Fire Department."
• The title card background is similar to those of "Welcome to the Chum Bucket," "Skill Crane," "Enemy In-Law," "The Inmates of Summer," "Plankton's Regular," "Krusty Krushers," "Free Samples," "Sharks vs. Pods," and "Lockdown for Love," except it is red and the axe and the bell are added.
