The I.O.U., short for I Owe YoU, is a document that appears in the episodes "Money Talks" and "Pest of the West."

Description

It is labeled with which item was sold. The person that has the I.O.U. has to write their first and last name on it.

Role in series

"Money Talks"

It appears when the Flying Dutchman is about to steal Mr. Krabs' soul. Instead of finding the soul, the Dutchman finds an I.O.U. The I.O.U. tells the Flying Dutchman that Mr. Krabs already sold his soul to other ghosts and monsters. The ghosts and monsters are waiting in line for Mr. Krabs' soul, and they tell the Flying Dutchman to go to the end of the line. SpongeBob is also there with a claim on Mr. Krabs' soul. He explains to the Dutchman that Mr. Krabs was five bucks short on payday.

"Pest of the West"

Pappy Krabs mentions that his I.O.U. will be due the noon of the next day, while Pecos Patrick is singing a song about Dead Eye Plankton.
