"In the Mood to Feud" is a SpongeBob SquarePants episode from season 14. In this episode, SpongeBob, Patrick, and Sandy find themselves in the middle of a long-standing feud between the Narwhals and the Planktons.

Synopsis

The group in Bikini Holler.

SpongeBob is feeding Gary when he hears Narlene's sea mule braying outside his house and goes to check on it. The mule spits out a leaf telling him to play a record player he is carrying. SpongeBob plays it and hears a message from Nobby saying that he, Patrick, and Sandy are invited to Bikini Holler for the annual bumblejelly harvest. They arrive and meet up with Narlene and Nobby. However, they end up crossing into Plankton territory. Narlene explains that her family has been feuding with the Planktons over ownership of the bumblejelly fields for generations.

Nobby brings the group to the bumblejelly trees, where Narlene introduces her family. When the harvest ends, they all celebrate at the festival, only for it to be invaded by the Planktons. The Planktons fire potatoes, and the Narwhals fight back by throwing shoes. The Planktons approach them wearing the shoes, but call for a truce, because Patrick ate all their potatoes. SpongeBob and Sandy cheer, and they celebrate with the Narwhal and Plankton families.

• This episode, alongside "Squidiot Box," "Blood is Thicker Than Grease," its sister episode, "Mooned!," "Hysterical History," "Kreepaway Kamp," "Snow Yellow," and "Sandy's Country Christmas" serve as this season's 25th anniversary specials.
  • In its press listing, it is listed as a "sequel episode," likely to "Blood is Thicker Than Grease." It also seems to take elements from "Something Narwhal This Way Comes," involving a plankton-related feud.
  • Both this and "Blood is Thicker Than Grease" feature the Plankton family.
• This episode was scheduled to premiere in Germany on June 23, 2024, but was replaced with a rerun of "Whale of a Birthday."
• In the UK and Ireland, this episode was originally scheduled to premiere on Nickelodeon on July 18, 2024, but was replaced with a rerun of "We ♥ Hoops." The episode was still made available on Paramount+, and later premiered on Nickelodeon on November 16, 2024. The episode was scheduled to be rerun on February 24 and February 25, 2025, however both of these airings were replaced with "A Place for Pets" at the last minute. • Despite the Plankton family mainly appearing in this episode, Plankton himself is absent from the episode and is not mentioned or pictured, making this the first episode where the Plankton family appears and Plankton is absent.

Cultural references

• The rivalry between the two hillbilly families, the Planktons and the Narwhals, is a reference to the rivalry between the Hatfields and the McCoys.
