Mr. Krabs' first dime, also called Dimey, is the first dime that Mr. Krabs ever owned. It appears in the episodes "Can You Spare a Dime?" and "Mutiny on the Krusty" and the video game SpongeBob's Truth or Square.

Description

"Can You Spare a Dime?"

It is a large, uneven, round stone with a hole in the middle and a crack on the bottom. Six indents appear throughout the stone.

"Mutiny on the Krusty"

It is a regular dime, framed in Mr. Krabs' office.

"Can You Spare a Dime?"

When Mr. Krabs does not spot his first dime in the cash register, he accuses Squidward of stealing it. This leads to Squidward enraged along with quitting his job, eventually moving in with SpongeBob after becoming homeless.

Eventually, SpongeBob gets frustrated with Squidward mooching off him and begs Mr. Krabs to re-hire him. Enraged due to Krabs' refusal, SpongeBob violently shakes Mr. Krabs until the dime falls out of his pants.

Mr. Krabs re-hires Squidward, but then accuses him again of misplacing the dime in his pants.

"Mutiny on the Krusty"

An enraged SpongeBob threatens to tear Mr. Krabs' first dime in half if he will not help out the customers, but this proves ineffective when he realizes how hard it is to tear. Eventually, he tries spending it instead, prompting Mr. Krabs to retaliate.

• The dime, in its first appearance, is based on the Rai stones from the island of Yap in Micronesia.

Cultural references

• Mr. Krabs' first dime is possibly a reference to Scrooge McDuck's first dime from Carl Barks' DuckTales comics.
