Sandman
The Sandman[1] is a character who appears in the episode "The Sandman Cometh."
Description
The sandman is a character who wears a purple hat with a dark purple stripe on it as well as a blue nose, yellow eyes, white gloves, purple clothing, purple bag, and light purple shoes. He can put anyone to sleep by blowing sand on their eyes. He was imagined by Patrick.
Role in episode
When Patrick can't get any sleep, SpongeBob comes to Patrick to tell him that he needs a visit from the Sandman to sleep as he tells Patrick that he can blow sand on his eyes and can be sleeping. Patrick makes a sandman out of the sand of his house as he tells it to put him to sleep but it disappeared.
Patrick then starts hallucinating the Sandman and he runs away and chases him around town as he wants him to put him to sleep. Patrick imagines that he is getting sand blown in the eyes by the sandman although that is just smoke coming out of the bus as Patrick realizes that he is not sleepy and continues chasing him.
He then imagines the Sandman blowing sand on his eyes again but it is just a sea snail and continues to chase him through town. As the Sandman runs away from Patrick, he enters and exits Squidward's house as Patrick then catches the Sandman but SpongeBob reminds him that he is not catching the sandman, only to find he was chasing Squidward all along. Realizing Patrick is going to stay awake forever, SpongeBob has him put it to good use by becoming an all-night trucker. Unfortunately, Patrick finally falls asleep after starting the truck and accidentally causes a huge boat pile-up. The Sandman then reappears in the truck next to Patrick and blows sleepy dust at the viewers ending the episode.
