Seahorse
Hippocampus, more commonly known by the name: seahorse, as their name would imply, are the underwater equivalent to horses.

Description
Green
The green version of a seahorse appears in the episode "My Pretty Seahorse." Her role in the episode is as SpongeBob's temporary pet after she develops an interest in the flowers SpongeBob plants in celebration of spring beginning.
For a while, SpongeBob considered naming her Grace, Majesty, or maybe even Debbie, but finally decided upon the name Mystery. Her name matches because if she eats something and walks away, then nobody knows and it is a mystery problem. However, in the Krusty Krab, she eats flowers, Krabby Patties, Old Man Jenkins, SpongeBob's spatula, the stove, SpongeBob's work hat, SpongeBob's floral bookmark, and Mr. Krabs' money.
Mr. Krabs does not like Mystery and wants SpongeBob to let her go, although SpongeBob lies about Mystery having a stomachache. He is afraid for Mystery to go, but Mr. Krabs tells him a story about when he spent his first dollar to convince him that it is for his own good, and he finally agrees with him.
Mystery is then let go by SpongeBob, albeit reluctantly. Soon, Squidward notices that she ate the bank, and SpongeBob and Mr. Krabs start chasing after her, yelling at her to come back.
A green seahorse also appears in some minigames in SpongeBob's Game Frenzy. In one minigame, SpongeBob has to hide a seahorse (This seahorse could be Mystery, as she has a similar role in My Pretty Seahorse to this one and her presence is given flack from Mr. Krabs akin to the seahorse featured in the minigame if the player runs out of time.) with help from the player, while in another, Patrick has to eat his ice cream within a time limit, lest a seahorse steals it much to Patrick's horror.
Purple
Purple seahorses appear in "Neptune's Spatula." They are summoned by King Neptune and bring him an apron to wear. An emblem of a purple seahorse can be seen on Neptune's belt buckle in every episode that physically features him.
One of the purple version reappears, making a cameo in The Patrick Star Show episode "Uncredible Journey" when Tinkle, Ouchie, and Pinkeye are lost in a jungle, which is later revealed to be just some bushes.
Orange
The orange version of the seahorse appears in The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie. They can be seen pulling the chariots of King Neptune and Princess Mindy. Dead seahorses (presumably killed by the Cyclops) appear in Shell City.
Gray
The gray version of seahorse appears as an illustration on a seahorse radish jar in the episode "Nasty Patty."
Habitats
They are wild animals that mostly reside in Jellyfish Fields.[1]
Mystery temporarily lived at SpongeBob's house.[2]
Two seahorses reside at King Neptune's castle.[3]
The petting zoo keeps some seahorses.[4]
Diet
Seahorses will eat almost anything.[2]
Mystery is shown eating anemones, an anemone bookmark, Krabby Patties, Old Man Jenkins, part of the grill, part of SpongeBob's spatula, Mr. Krabs' money, and SpongeBob's Krusty Krab hat.[2]
Trivia
- A seahorse is put in "Opposite Day" as part of the pin-the-tail-on-the-seahorse party activity.
