The tornado[1] is a seemingly sentient tornado that appears in the episode "Pizza Delivery." However, plenty of other similar tornadoes appear throughout the series.
Description
They usually look like normal tornadoes that are either tan, gray, or white.
Role in series
"Pizza Delivery"
When SpongeBob and Squidward are traversing through a sandstorm, they both come across a tornado. Both Squidward and SpongeBob get sucked in (while the tornado is floating), as Squidward still tries to tell SpongeBob to let go of the pizza. The tornado then shows signs of sentience, as it forms a mouth and spits both SpongeBob and Squidward out.
"Atlantis SquarePantis"
Patchy the Pirate and Potty the Parrot get sucked into a tornado, which leads them back to their house.
"Pineapple Fever"
When Squidward thinks that the storm has finally ended, he attempts to run out of SpongeBob's house. It is then revealed that SpongeBob's house was being carried by a tornado, leading Squidward to fall to the ground.
"The Curse of the Hex"
A tornado[2] can be seen taking away several customers who try to leave the Krusty Krab during the storm.
"The Main Drain"
A sentient tornado can be seen destroying all of Bikini Bottom whenever the the main drain is unplugged. This tornado is also able to form arms if an object is too big for it to suck down.
"Food Con Castaways"
A tornado can be seen briefly carrying the RV that SpongeBob, Patrick, Squidward, and Mr. Krabs are in.
"Scavenger Pants"
When SpongeBob and Patrick attempt to find the desert sandwich in the Bikini Badlands, they come across a tornado which carries them back to Squidward's house. SpongeBob and Patrick then bring the tornado inside Squidward's house, revealing the sand witch inside.
Role in games
SuperSponge
In the PS1 version, seemingly sentient tornadoes appear as enemies in the level "Desert Wasteland" in which they damage SpongeBob if he gets in contact with them. However, the tornadoes can be defeated by attacking them.

A tornado can be seen carrying away Patrick Star's house.
SpongeBob Comics No. 52
A machine is seen that is able to make cotton candy tornadoes. At the end of the comic, there is an ad for said cotton candy tornadoes now with additional faces.
Trivia
- Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy have the ability to create a tornado-like whirlpool called "The Raging Whirlpool" in the episode "Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy." The Raging Whirlpool also appears in the video games Employee of the Month, Lights, Camera, Pants!, and The Yellow Avenger.
