Production

This episode was confirmed by Cartoonlounge.de on December 20, 2022.[1]

On March 3, 2023, Vincent Waller stated that the episode had been through the final mixing phase, indicating that it was near completion.[2]

On April 21, 2023, in response to a fan implying the question of why the segment wouldn't premiere on Arbor Day,[3] Waller stated that it was shifted around with other episodes to make way for an extended "special" episode ("Dopey Dick") and a short ("Plankton and the Beanstalk.") However, he believed that when the episodes are released to the public, "folks will be happy we did."[4]

Nearly a week later on April 27, Waller stated that he and the crew approved the final mix of this segment and its sister episode, "Ain't That the Tooth," stating that fans would not have to "wait very long" for the episode to come out in the United States.[5]

Trivia

General

  • The title card background looks similar to the background used in the season 1 episodes "Ripped Pants" and "Walking Small," except that the title card appears to be dark green.
  • This episode marks Sandy's first major role in season 13.
    • The last major role she played was in the season 12 episode "A Cabin in the Kelp."
    • Coincidentally, in two of the three major roles she's had this season, (this episode and "Hot Crossed Nuts") Mr. Krabs references his navy days.
  • This episode marks the second Nickelodeon show to have an Arbor Day centered episode, the first being the Harvey Beaks episode, "Arbor Day."
  • This episode was paired up with a rerun of "Mandatory Music" during the original American airing.[6]
  • This episode is currently the lowest-viewed episode in the SpongeBob SquarePants franchise, with only 106,000 viewers.
  • Mrs. Puff fearfully runs away when she suddenly hears police sirens in the distance. This is presumably a reference to the running gag of Mrs. Puff getting sent to jail several times in the series, but was most likely just a follow up to an earlier scene where her tree phones the police and tells them about Mrs. Puff's job in Shell City.
