Conch signal

Template:OTab Template:Object The conch signal is a device that was once used by Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy in The Adventures of Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy. Template:Data:Links wins it as a prize in a contest in the episode "Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy II."

Description

The conch signal is light purple on the outside and dark purple on the inside with 3 dark purple spots and it resembles a regular conch shell, except it is much bigger.

Role in episode

After winning a contest, SpongeBob wins the conch signal and uses it to see if it works. This causes Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy to hear it and come to Template:Data:Links. They warn SpongeBob that it is not a toy and should only be used in emergencies.

SpongeBob uses it to call them so that they can help him open a jar of mayonnaise. Barnacle Boy is angry that SpongeBob has used it in a false alarm. Mermaid Man convinces Barnacle Boy to let SpongeBob use the conch for minor favors because superhero emergencies do not come up very often.

SpongeBob uses the conch signal several more times for incredibly menial things until the super duo is tired. While Mermaid Man is still enthusiastic about helping SpongeBob with things, Barnacle Boy is less enthused and takes it away from SpongeBob and tries to destroy it with his heat vision, but fails. He then puts it in his pants and says that he will destroy it later. SpongeBob apologizes and says he kept blowing the conch signal because he wanted to spend time with his heroes, and Mermaid Man forgives him for what he did and has him join the duo on their city patrol for the day to make up for it.

• The conch signal is a reference to the conch trumpet used by Triton in Greek mythology.
