The dirt dance is a dance performed by SpongeBob, Patrick, and the roots in the episode "That Sinking Feeling."
Role in episode
After Squidward begind to go nuts hearing SpongeBob and Patrick's laughing, he begins to hop up and down in frustration on the seafloor, causing the roots under Squidward's house to curl in and ravel out at the beat of his rhythm. SpongeBob notices the roots' moves from underground, and Patrick says they're dancing. SpongeBob then exclaims to "do like the roots do and do the dirt dance, baby!," and the two bounce across the sublevel. Squidward is shaken aboveground by their actions, and it causes his house to sink.
