Synopsis

The episode opens with Patrick opening an episode of his show. He shows a big table full of dangerous items. A big red "WRONG" is plastered on screen and Bubble Bass, recording himself, critiques and berates this part, questioning how the dynamite is staying inside the toaster. He is then interrupted by his mother, telling him to send up his dirty laundry. Bubble Bass scolds her, explaining that he is making art. Mama Bass doesn't care and throws down the laundry basket, landing on Bubble Bass's face.

"You Can't Do That in Real Life."

Bubble Bass begins his 674th episode of The Bubble Bass Reviews Show with his first segment, "You Can't Do That in Real Life." During the segment’s opening, he tries to move his mouse out of the way, but ends up revealing his Kitten Princess wallpaper. He fixes his camera to a segment of The Patrick Show! where Patrick and Squidina are at a campfire. Bubble Bass points out that there's fire underwater and cackles, hoping someone is fired for this. Mama Bass once again interrupts, exclaiming that his Pizza Bagels are ready. Bubble Bass prepares to eat them, but then realizes his camera is on.

After a cutaway to him pretending to be a sorcerer, Bubble Bass continues with the review, beginning the next segment "You Goof'd!". He puts in a tape of a clip of episode PAT 054, where Patrick throws a baseball into GrandPat's mouth. Bubble Bass pauses the tape, pointing out that the baseball changes directions in the clip. He angrily proclaims that his immersion was ruined and ends the segment with the phrase "You Goofed!"

After two more cutaways to a cat girl performance and a showing of a "My Tiny Seahorse" figure, Bubble Bass brings out his sponsor, Canned Nacho Cheese. His mother immediately interrupts, explaining to the viewers that her son is living a pathetic life and needs a job. After she leaves, Bubble Bass shows a clip from episode 227F, where Patrick’s pants fall down, causing him to fall down. Bubble Bass then goes on an excessive rant about The Patrick Show, its crew, and its audience.

It is then revealed that Patrick and Squidina were watching Bubble Bass' review. Patrick turns off the laptop and says they "oughta go have a little talk with him." It immediately starts raining and Patrick brings an umbrella with them. After yet another cutaway to him failing to score in basketball, Bubble Bass continues with his review, showing that in one scene, Patrick has a regular arm, and in another scene, he has thumbs. This makes Bubble Bass so angry that he consumes an entire box of donuts. Unbeknownst to him, Patrick and Squidina walk up to his house in the storm.

Bubble Bass brings out more donuts to hate-eat, but Mama Bass barges in, saying that his friends are here to see him. Bubble Bass is confused, as he doesn't have any friends, but his mother clarifies that their names are Patrick and Squidina. Realizing, Bubble Bass fortifies the door and turns off the lights, hoping they think he's not home. He looks to his windows and sees Patrick and Squidina knocking at them. Bubble Bass is mortified, even more so when they barge in and the water from outside ruins his action figures, comic books, and retro gaming console. Patrick and Squidina land in the room, saying that they watched this review. Bubble Bass runs out to the door, but his mother is too busy cutting carrots to open the door. Bubble Bass, realizing he's cornered by Patrick and Squidina, apologizes for his review. Patrick walks right up to him and thanks Bubble Bass for all of the criticism. Patrick shows him the review show he and Squidina made to review Bubble Bass Reviews, "Review Review."

On "Review Review," Patrick starts by showing a montage of Bubble Bass' clothing stains, including grape juice, oatmeal, ketchup, and chocolate syrup. Squidina continues by showing a montage of Bubble Bass's loudest tantrums. Patrick follows it up by saying that Bubble Bass sweats a lot, accompanied with a clip of Bubble Bass heavily sweating. Bubble Bass, after watching the entire review, barges out the house running into the storm. Mama Bass runs out, loving that he's getting exercise. The sun comes out, and she tells Bubble Bass to put on some sunscreen. He refuses, causing him to be set on fire by the sun's light, ending the episode.

An image from this episode was released by the SpongeBob Archive Twitter account on July 23, 2023.

On the following day, storyboard artist and writer Miggs Perez said it was their and Andy Gonsalves' work, confirming that it was not only a real image, but that they were the storyboard artists and writers for this segment.

• Perez said that they "loved" working on this episode, saying that "it was honestly kind of like [they] got to write a love letter to all the cringey YouTube [they] used to watch back in the day."

• This was one of Phillips' favorite episodes to storyboard so far.
• Phillips "thoroughly enjoyed designing Patrick the clown," saying that "he deserves his own show, or at the very least his own cartoon review show".
• "Andy G's drawings of Bubble Bass made me crack up - I wanted to preserve his lumpiness/awkwardness in my boards, so I stuck quite close to Andy's roughs (That seahorse is Andy's, and it's GREAT. LEAVE IT, I said)"

• This episode was originally going to premiere at 1:00 PM, but was later moved to 5:00 PM.
• The title card art for the episode is an edited version of official promotional art created for the series.
• Bubble Bass criticizes many rules in the show, making him a hypocrite:
  • He criticizes fire being underwater and hopes somebody gets fired for it.
  • He criticizes Patrick's tooth shape.
  • He criticizes Patrick's hand, which makes him eat hate-eating powdered donuts.
• This episode's production code (PAT 054) is seen when Bubble Bass inserts a VHS tape to show one of The Patrick Star Show's errors.
• This episode was paired up with a rerun of "Get Off My Lawnie" during the original American airing.
• Despite Bubble Bass himself criticizing the switching directions between shots on The Patrick Show!, he himself broke the rule while pointing at the TV screen.
• Bubble Bass tosses a basketball and yells "Touchdown!", which is actually a term used in football. Patrick does the same thing in "Backpay Payback."

Cultural references

• The entire episode is a parody of unprofessional movie and cartoon critic videos. Additionally, it also parodies how movie and cartoon critics tend to make something out as far worse than it actually is.
• The opening title of episode #674 of Bubble Bass' review series features the character donning clothes akin to controversial movie critic Doug Walker, who hosts the Nostalgia Critic series of YouTube videos.
  • On July 25, 2023, Doug Walker (performing as the Nostalgia Critic) made a satirical response to this episode in a YouTube video, initially seeming to show blatant dismay and sadness of his mockery on the series - but then performs a "bait-and-switch" move making fun of the Angry Video Game Nerd.
• Bubble Bass' My Tiny Seahorse doll is a parody of the My Little Pony line of toys.
• An Atari 2600 can be seen when Patrick and Squidina open Bubble Bass' window and flood his house.
• One of the "errors" seen in a still image of Bubble Bass' review references Patrick's single buck tooth inconsistently changing from completely square to rounded on the sides, and may also be a reference to the negative discourse surrounding Patrick's one baby-toothed design.
• The "You Goofed" end tag logo references the "Griffin's Goofers" logo from Griffin's amiibo corner, a series of videos hosted on the Polygon YouTube channel.
• Initially based vaguely on a handful of tropes, the finalized Kitten Princess (despite the SpongeBob universe having snails as the equivalent to cats) takes influence from Tokyo Mew Mew.
• Bubble Bass' sponsorship segment may be a parody of the "like, comment, and subscribe" and "have you played this game" sponsor culture that has become common among YouTubers in the past few years.
• The Mermaid Man & Barnacle Boy issue Bubble Bass reviews in episode 41 has a strikingly similar cover to Action Comics 1.
• The song that Mama Bass listens to on her headphones resembles the song "Eye of the Tiger" from the 1982 movie Rocky III.

Errors

• Although GrandPat can be heard screaming in one of Patrick's clips, Dana Snyder is not listed in the credits.
  • Funny enough, the scene is one of the goofs in "You Goof'd!".
• During the "You Goof'd!" section, the exclamation mark is clipping through the screen.
  • This could have been done intentionally, as to make fun of animation errors. Another case similar to this is in the show Garfield and Friends in the episode "Mistakes Will Happen" where the entire episode is based on intentional mistakes and errors within the show.
