The cowbones are two characters who appear in the episode "Pest of the West." They later appear in the video game The Cosmic Shake.
Description
They are skulls of some land animals with white horns and three visible teeth. Their appearance is similar to a bull's skull.
Role in episode
When SpongeBuck gets kicked out of the Krusty Kantina by Dead Eye Plankton, he ends up in a desert with his coffin being broken. This is where the cowbones show up, one of them warning SpongeBob that the heat provokes hallucinations. A second cowbone then comes in and tells SpongeBuck not to listen to the other cowbone, claiming that the other cowbone is crazy. They all laugh, and then Pecos Patrick comes in and tells SpongeBuck that the cowbones are funny but lazy.
Both cowbones would also appear in the epilogue of the episode, during the "Idiot Friends" song.
