Synopsis

SpongeBob rides on his unicycle through Bikini Bottom, passing by Patrick at his house. He stops there, noticing Patrick is holding a mallet. Patrick smashes himself with the mallet, not wanting to grow a nose, which causes a tooth to fall out of him. SpongeBob tells him that leaving a tooth for the Tooth Fairy will give him a quarter, so Patrick smashes himself again so he can leave more teeth under his pillow.

That night, Dorsal Dan sneaks into Patrick's house attempting to rob him, but is unsuccessful and gets punched by him. Glitter falls into Dorsal Dan, with Patrick thinking that he is the Tooth Fairy, so he kidnaps him and goes to show him to SpongeBob. Patrick enters SpongeBob's bedroom and shows him the "Tooth Fairy." SpongeBob believes that Dorsal Dan is the Tooth Fairy as well, and he and Patrick want to take a trip with him. At first, Dorsal Dan questions their belief, but then decides to go along with it for his own purpose of robbing people.

They first stop at Bubble Bass's house, with SpongeBob and Patrick looking for teeth, and Dorsal Dan going for his money. SpongeBob and Patrick manage to extract a tooth out of Bubble Bass's mouth. SpongeBob, Patrick, and Dorsal Dan go around more houses through town, with SpongeBob and Patrick getting the teeth as Dorsal Dan robs people for their valuables, but gets harmed every time.

Dorsal Dan prepares for his last stop, but SpongeBob interrupts him so they can go inside Mr. Krabs' house. As they go inside the house, SpongeBob warns Dorsal Dan of security traps, in which one is set off by Patrick. Mr. Krabs comes down, confused, and soon tells SpongeBob and Patrick that Dorsal Dan is not the real Tooth Fairy. Dorsal Dan tries to convince SpongeBob and Patrick still, as they leave Mr. Krabs' house.

The police chase SpongeBob, Patrick, and Dorsal Dan as they end up at the top of a cliff. SpongeBob and Patrick then push Dorsal Dan off the cliff, as they say that he can fly, being the "Tooth Fairy." Dorsal Dan ends up injured, as the actual Tooth Fairy soon appears, complimenting SpongeBob and Patrick for their efforts of collecting teeth. She rewards them by making them her assistants and giving them the ability to fly.

Production notes

Vincent Waller:

  • Waller stated that this is one of his favorite episodes.[8]

Jeff Shea:

  • Shea said that the brief given to him while boarding this episode was "Kill Mr. Pink" or something akin to that.[5]
  • Shea thanked Ian Vazquez for his guidance and drawings of a mangled, dropped-off-a-cliff Dorsal Dan.[5]
  • Shea had "so much fun" designing the Tooth Fairy seen at the end of the episode.[7]

Kyle Morrison:

  • Morrison said that "Dorsal Dan was such a tricky but fun character to draw, especially leaning so heavily into his Buscemi-ishness." They had to give "major credit to Ian for his guidance to that end!"[6]
  • SpongeBob and Patrick finding diamonds in Upturn's sack was one of Morrison's favorite shots in the episode. Morrison also loved the running gag of giving everyone a gentle kiss, and was happy that they got the chance to draw the giant trevally from "Salty Sponge" again.[9]

Ian Vazquez:

  • Vazquez said that the Tooth Fairy was designed to look like she came out of a completely different show, taking inspiration from characters like Young Mermaid Man and King Neptune.
    • He believed that Jeff Shea knocked her design out of the park, as well as Stephanie Gladden on the final version.[10]

Trivia

General

The bobblehead is a reference to Mrs. Puff's first prototype design.
  • When Dorsal Dan is driving his boat, there is a hula bobblehead figure based on Mrs. Puff's first prototype design by Stephen Hillenburg.
  • The title card background is similar to the ones of "Snooze You Lose," "Stuck on the Roof," and "Girls' Night Out" except the title card does not have flowers on it.
  • When he is first seen, Patrick is trying not to get a nose. The episodes "Something Smells" and "No Nose Knows" focus on Patrick being noseless; however, he was able to grow a nose in "The Battle of Bikini Bottom," while he smells without a nose on some occasions.
    • Unlike in "No Nose Knows", Patrick didn't wants to have a nose and mistaken for the incoming tooth for a growing nose and tries to get rid of it with a hammer.
  • In this episode, SpongeBob and Patrick meet the Tooth Fairy, however in "The Whole Tooth," Patrick's last baby tooth boards a Tooth Ferry.
  • The episode may takes place in autumn, winter or very early spring because SpongeBob is wearing a coat and Patrick is wearing a sweater.
