Role in episode
After SpongeBob, his parents, and Patrick's vacation goes terribly off course, their car breaks down. Margaret SquarePants suggests that SpongeBob and Patrick play in a nearby playground. They go to the playground, but it is in such bad condition that eventually Patrick gets launched into a drain pipe, ending at the mysterious forest. SpongeBob goes after Patrick, and they explore the forest, looking for a way out. The duo hear growling, and they run. However, they reach a cliff, and they fall. Thankfully, they land on a bouncy plant, and bounce to safety.
They congratulate themselves for staying alive, but a giant fruit fly appears behind them. The duo try to escape by using vines, but fail. They hide, and that works. They then stumble across a gift shop, and go inside planning to buy souvenirs. However, SpongeBob realizes the gift shop is a "tourist trap," and decides not to buy anything, but he does anyway, regretting it. He says that the vacation has been a failure, but Patrick tells him that it wasn't a failure because they did everything they wanted to do.
This cheers SpongeBob up, and he decides to keep looking for a way out. SpongeBob and Patrick sing The Road Song on the way, but this tires them out. Patrick suggests that they stop singing the song, so SpongeBob plays it with a whistle from the gift shop. This attracts the attention of several creatures from the forest, including the fruit fly. However, the music soothes it, so it offers the two a ride out of the forest.
