Battle for Bikini Bottom (home console)/development
Appearance
Template:VTab This article contains information about the development for the home console version of Battle for Bikini Bottom.
General
- The game was codenamed "SPONGEBOB:WHENROBOTSATTACK"Template:Sic and was originally titled "SpongeBob : Mechanical Mischief."[1]
- SpongeBob's sundae from the season 2 episode "Something Smells" was meant to be a power-up that would have allowed the player to run faster and break stone tikis.
- The throw fruits were originally soccer balls at one point.
- Graphics for an earlier version of the HUD exist with the files (with 2D versions of the underwear and the golden spatulas).
- There is an early model of the button that said "PUSH" on it instead of a hand icon.
- Shiny Object clams were originally donation boxes.
- The model of Squidward's clarinet is in the game's files.
- The toll gates originally had a clam shell with "STOP" slapped onto them.
- The hint signs were originally a picture of Template:Data:Links.
- The Thunder Tiki and the Floating Tiki had a completely different design.
- The up and down arrows in the pause menu screen were going to be pineapples instead of jellyfish.
- There's a model for a female fish intended to be for Goo Lagoon.
- A textureless worm that resembles Mr. Doodles can be found and placed in-game, but his animations and collisions are broken.
- Template:Data:Links has unused "evil" speech for the hub world. Possible as a placeholder or as a joke by a developer.
- There's unused audio for when Patrick encountered Slick and when Sandy encountered Arf.
- An unused animation for Arf when it gets lassoed by Sandy.
- Industrial Park was originally intended to have three Chucks, a button to push, and a bridge.
- Patrick's Dream was intended to be a whole dessert-themed level for instead of Patrick just standing in the middle of nowhere. The level is present in the file of the GameCube and Xbox version and can be loaded, although incomplete as the skybox is missing and some enemies do not function correctly.
- There was originally supposed to be a third phase for the final boss fight against SpongeBot SteelPants where the robot gets anchor arms, a pair of legs and a speedo. Patrick would've also been playable during this segment.[2]
Prerelease
- Robo-Squidward was a planned boss as suggested from two concept art. He only appeared in the Game Boy Advance version before being brought back in the multiplayer mode of Battle for Bikini Bottom: Rehydrated.
- Glove World! was a planned level, according to an unused pause menu and concept art.
- Golden spatulas could simply be collected in the overworld.
- A pre-release screenshot showing the Goo Lagoon early level in its prime.
- Concept art and screenshots shows that Sleepy-Time had a slightly different design with the top of its head having a "saucer" shaped form. This design was reused in the PC version.
- Tubelet's floaty was meant to use a laser to attack instead of a flamethrower.
- Early footage and screenshots showcase that Monsoon was going to walk instead of flying.
- There are white urchins on the rocks in Jellyfish Fields.
- In the second section of the Jellyfish Fields level, Template:Data:Links was originally supposed to be at the top of the slide instead of Mermaid Man.
- Kelp Forest was intended to be set in the daytime.
- The Poseidome logo in the middle of the ring of the Robo-Sandy fight was much more smaller.
- Bosses health meters were completely different from the final version.
- SpongeBob's helmet for the Bubble Bash was much more simpler.
- SpongeBob can be seen not smiling in some screenshots.
- Hans would have come from the top instead of the right.
- The Krusty Krab was much more larger in the trailers with no flags and different textures.
- The Cruise Bubble has no radar screen.
- The tikis aren't animated in the gameplay footage.
- Instead of a glove, there is a green arrow that points to objects Sandy can lasso.
- The prompt to enter a level lacked a textbox. Interestingly, the unused Patrick's Dream level still uses this early configuration when it says to enter Template:Data:Links's Mind or to exit the level.
- SpongeBob's running animation is faster.
- The Bubble Bowl only destroys one tiki at a time.
- There are no taxi gates in the prerelease trailers.
- The explosions the robots make when the player defeats them are different.
- Sandy's lasso made a "swish" sound in prerelease footages.
- The Shiny Objects were originally crystals according to a few prerelease videos and images.
- Template:Data:Links can be seen wearing his Krusty Krab employee hat and is holding his clarinet in prerelease footages.
- The layout of the furniture in Template:Data:Links is different.
- There was a Ham-Mer in SpongeBob's kitchen.
- Sandy was originally going to slide on her tail instead of using a shellboard.
- Patrick has a different walk cycle.
- Patrick would've used headbutting as his primary attack instead of his belly bump.
