It is a fighting game where you can play as the 6 main characters (one of them is a robot however). When you start the game, the player has an options of choosing versus, story, and practice mode. Versus mode is when you connect to the sever and fight with online players (this only works on Nick.com). Story mode is when fight against all the other characters. And practice mode is when you can do a single fight against any character and choose what location you wanna brawl in. Once you start the fight, it works like this: Use the arrow keys to move. Press the up key to jump. Press Z for special attack and X for super attack once the meter if full. Press the spacebar to attack and pick up items.
You and your opponent are trying to knock each other out! You or your opponent will lose a life if your knocked out of the screen or if you fall too far. You have 3 floating platforms to jump on if necessary. There are also boxes that appear and gives you various power-ups to use against your opponent. The game ends when you or opponent is knocked out and loses all 4 lives. There are also unlock outfits you can choose for your character.
The characters have various phrases and words that are either heard or written in speech bubbles during storymode. The Dialogue is reused from various SpongeBob episodes. Some have been slightly changed from the original dialogue.

Example: There was originally a "Game Over" screen. However, in the final version, it was changed to "You Lose."

With the exception of the life counter and the character select screen, Squidward doesn't have eyebrows.
