Long pants
Long pants are a variety of pants worn by SpongeBob that are the plot device of the episode "SpongeBob LongPants."
Description
They strongly resemble SpongeBob's regular pants but come with the addition of long, brown sleeves that cover his legs.
Role in episode
After noticing that SpongeBob has cold knees, a salesman comes and offers him a pair of long pants to keep cool in cold weather conditions. After thinking it over, SpongeBob tries them on, and when he does, the salesman says he looks mature in his long pants. SpongeBob does not believe this at first, but is convinced so after Patrick walks by and notices his new pair of pants, calling him a "man" afterward. Pleased by the results, SpongeBob finally purchases the long pants.
SpongeBob shows off his long pants at the Krusty Krab, causing many customers to admire his sudden change in appearance. Later at night, SpongeBob finds himself at a sophisticated party he was not expecting to be invited to. The fish seem to have taken a liking to him because of his new pants. A fancy fish then forces SpongeBob along to a showing of a movie called The Table, but he would rather see the new Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy movie, though he cannot due to the rating system placing a pants-size restriction on moviegoers.
SpongeBob makes many attempts to get them off before the pants are finally cut off by Mr. Krabs. Upon seeing this, the male fancy fish finds out who SpongeBob truly is and thus ends his friendship with him, saying he seems like he belongs to the Krusty Krab. In response, SpongeBob says he not only goes there, but works there as well.
