Netflix
Netflix is an American subscription video on-demand over-the-top streaming service. The service primarily distributes original and acquired films and television shows from various genres, and it is available internationally in multiple languages.
History

Netflix was founded by Marc Randolph and Reed Hastings on August 29, 1997, in Scotts Valley, California as a mail-based rental business.
The Netflix service was launched by Netflix, Inc. on January 16, 2007.
In 2009, Netflix was granted the rights to distribute SpongeBob SquarePants until 2013, when the show was pulled from the service because the distribution license expired and Netflix did not want to renew it.[1]
In July 2020, Netflix acquired the international distribution rights to The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run, excluding the United States, Canada, and China as that movie was released on Netflix on November 5, 2020.
On September 27, 2022, a Netflix port of SpongeBob: Krusty Cook-Off named SpongeBob: Get Cooking was released on the Netflix platform and requires a subscription to play.[2][3][4]
Two SpongeBob SquarePants spin-off movies, Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Movie and Plankton: The Movie, were released exclusively on Netflix on August 2, 2024 and March 7, 2025, respectively.[5]
On September 17, 2024, Netflix released the mobile game SpongeBob: Bubble Pop, which requires a subscription to play.[6] The game was removed from Netflix on July 15, 2025.
On January 1, 2025, The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water was added onto Netflix.
At some point before late August 2025, Season 8 and 9 of SpongeBob SquarePants was added to the service in Sweden.

General
- On the Netflix icon for The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run, SpongeBoy can be seen on the picture frame on the picture of SpongeBob crying as the original was a picture of SpongeBob and Gary at Kamp Koral.
- Seasons 8 and 9 of SpongeBob SquarePants as well as The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie and The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water are also available on Netflix on the kids profile[7].
- "Truth or Square" has two parts on episode listing for season 6 on this service.
- Netflix reused the title Mr. Plankton from in "The Algae's Always Greener."
Errors
- On the SpongeBob SquarePants episode listings, some titles are not spelled correctly.
- "Pest of the West" is mistakenly called "The Pest of the West."
- "Suction Cup Symphony" is misspelled as "Suctioncup Symphony."
- "To SquarePants or Not to SquarePants" is misspelled as "To Squarepants or Not to Square Pants."
- "Shuffleboarding" is listed as its original title, "Shuffle Boarding"
- "Sponge-Cano!" is misspelled as "Sponge-cano."
- "Drive Thru" is listed as "Drive-Thru."
- "It Came from Goo Lagoon" is listed as "Spongebob VS the Goo."
- "SpongeBob You're Fired" is listed as its original title, "SpongeBob, You're Fired!"
