The pioneers are a set of early sea creatures who inhabited the Pacific Ocean. They are mentioned and imitated by SpongeBob in the episode "Pizza Delivery," and appear in the episode "Hysterical History."

Ancestral traditions
They supposedly had traditions for special events. Those traditions were:
- Hitchhiking by breakdancing
- Finding civilizations by moss growth on a rock
- Eating coral
- Riding on rocks
Role in series
"Pizza Delivery"
SpongeBob uses several techniques from the pioneers in order to get him and Squidward to their destination, while encouraging the latter to do the same.
"Hysterical History"
In the Museum of Bikini Bottom History, SpongeBob, Patrick and Sandy observe the pioneer exhibit. Patrick rides a rock he can't control, but Sandy catches him with a lasso. SpongeBob then tells the story of pioneer life: Mr. Krabs' pioneer ancestor is shown milking a sea urchin when he's attacked by a cowboy gang led by Plankton. SpongeBob and Patrick's Western counterparts, Sheriff Pants and Deputy Star, show up and capture the bandits with bubbles. The pioneer Mr. Krabs goes on to open Bikini Bottom's first restaurant, the Krusty Kreamery.
