Synopsis
Squidward wakes up early to play reveille. His awful clarinet playing annoys the campers, who throw trash at him from inside their cabins. As he leaves, a group of anchovies complain to him. The next morning, a brown anchovy with a trumpet plays a much better reveille, pleasantly waking up the campers. The anchovies pick up the brown anchovy and celebrate, but when Squidward insults him, he returns and sticks Squidward's clarinet over his head.
Squidward goes to Mr. Krabs, who enjoys the anchovy's playing (which he names "Anchoveille") more than Squidward's, and shows a rulebook that says the best musician gets to play reveille. SpongeBob reassures Squidward that he is a dedicated fan of his music, and indirectly gives Squidward the idea to wake up an hour earlier and play reveille, before the anchovies can.
Early the next morning, before sunrise, Squidward attempts to play. However, he is interrupted by the brown anchovy playing reveille from the watchtower. Squidward tries to chop the tower down with an axe, but the anchovies send him back to his cabin. Squidward accepts that his music is not as good as he thinks, and teams up with SpongeBob to practice and earn his job rightfully.
SpongeBob and Squidward practice reveille atop a cliff, only to be sabotaged by the anchovies, who cause part of it to collapse. They play in the outhouse, which the anchovies move to the top of Bikini Atoll. During a live Anchoveille performance, Squidward goes on stage and asserts that he is the only one who should be waking people up. The crowd wants more Anchoveille, and the anchovies use their instruments to launch him off stage.
The next morning, Mr. Krabs finds himself waking up late, and everyone is still asleep. The anchovies are playing soothing, smooth jazz instead of reveille. Fearing that the parents will not pay if their kids do not participate in camp activities, Krabs forces Squidward to play and wake up the campers. Enraged, they throw trash at him again, but Squidward enjoys the feeling of being needed. Inside his cabin, SpongeBob draws a picture of Squidward, captioned "Best Waker Upper Ever!"
