Synopsis

Squidward's new shell phone goes off at work, to SpongeBob's surprise. Squidward's call is a telemarketer, whom he hangs up on and blocks. SpongeBob is ecstatic at Squidward's ringtone, "Bubbly-Doo-Da," and asks to see the phone. Squidward refuses and tells him to get his own, emphasizing his phone's special features. SpongeBob runs around in excitement, and the next day, returns to the Krusty Krab with his own phone.

SpongeBob repeatedly calls his "phone buddy" throughout the day, driving Squidward mad. He then shows off his phone's features, all of which embarrass or annoy Squidward. Out of frustration, Squidward destroys his own phone so SpongeBob will stop calling him. Feeling guilty, SpongeBob lends Squidward his own phone, which has been programmed with its own ringtone: "I love ya, buddy!"

Throughout the day, the ringtone repeatedly goes off, to Squidward's growing frustration. Reaching his breaking point, he throws the phone in the garbage, leading Mr. Krabs to give him the day off. Squidward refuses, not wanting to deal with Patrick at home, and asks if SpongeBob can go home instead. Krabs agrees, to Squidward's relief. As SpongeBob heads home, he hears his phone ringtone chiming from the garbage, obliviously responding, "I love you too, trash can!"
