Help Wanted
Help Wanted, the very first episode of SpongeBob SquarePants Series, that is more than 23 years old. Tell me the definition of the great start of the best show in the world.
The episode's plot is about SpongeBob trying to get a job in Krusty Krab. SpongeBob is unsure a bit, but with the support from his best friend Patrick, he got the determination to go to Krusty Krab. Mr. Krabs, who isn't sure that SpongeBob will be a great employee, sends him on an "impossible", how he thought, mission. Meanwhile, Krusty Krab is attacked by unorganized hungry anchovies. Hopeless Mr. Krabs and Squidward were ready to dye, but SpongeBob saved them, using his new high-technology spatula. Music Living in The Sunshine, Loving in The Moonlight was fit to this. When all anchovies left the Krusty Krab, Patrick came for lunch. Instead of giving a patty, SpongeBob made many patties who threw Patrick away, leaving Squidward unsatisfactory.
In my opinion, the episode was great, but it has some problems. The start of the episode wasn't that interesting, and before anchovies came I found myself looking in the wall, instead of on the episode, maybe because I've watched this episode many times before. Humor, like in the rest of Season 1's episodes was on the top, the soundtrack was pretty fitting and the story was interesting. My opinion of the episode 7/9 - Low Great. I couldn't dream for a better start for the series, especially when most show's first episodes weren't really good.
I recommend this episode for everyone, who wants to get into SpongeBob, newbies, and just for people, who want to up their mood or nostalgic a bit.
Reef Blower
The only episode without lines, the first SpongeBob 2-minute short, Reef Blower.
The episode starts with Squidward seen a pink shell on his ground and threw it away to SpongeBob's one. SpongeBob tried to get rid of it, using his reef blower, but he made more mess. In trying to get rid of the send, he absorbed all water in the sea and made a huge mess in all town, while his garden was pretty clean. Satisfied SpongeBob comes home, while Squidward leaves in the sand and that pink shell fell on his nose.
In my opinion, this episode is 5/9 - Good, it's a funny, interesting story, good format, but has a lot of other problems. The main problem is both Squidward and SpongeBob were selfish. Instead of throwing the shell in the bin or bring it home (I think it's a pretty cute shell) Squidward thrown it to SpongeBob's ground and got karma for it, while he doesn't deserve that karma. SpongeBob is another problem of the episode. Instead of doing the same as I recommended to Squidward, he took his reef blower, causing more problems. The ending isn't satisfactory. SpongeBob made a huge mess in town and didn't care about it. It's not good. After watching this episode, I decided to demote it below other 5/9 - Good episodes in Season 1.
This episode wasn't really important in the series and I can't recommend it as a special episode. I just recommend watching it in pair with Help Wanted.
Tea at the Treedome
Tea at the Treedome, the first episode with Sandy, the last from the first trilogy.
The episode is about how SpongeBob meets Sandy and the start of great love.
While SpongeBob was Jellyfishing, he found a land Squirrel who fought with a giant clam. He tried to save a squirrel, but the squirrel, whose name was Sandy, saved SpongeBob instead. She invited him into the house, full of air. SpongeBob, who tried to impress Sandy, stated that he loves air, even when he doesn't know what does air means. He went for advice to Patrick. On the next day, SpongeBob went to Sandy's treedome. He quickly understood he doesn't like air. During the episode, he was dried, and he wanted to get water, but he didn't want to disappoint Sandy. After all, Patrick finally got in treedome, while Sandy went for cookies, and he understood that air is bad for him too. When Sandy came, she found SpongeBob and Patrick, totally dried. She treated them, they became friends and drank Sandy's tea.
After a rewatch, I promoted this episode to 8/9 - Great. It has an interesting story, a bit of romance and moral - don't lie in trying to impress someone.
I recommend this episode to every SpongeBob fan, and newbies, because this episode is as important as Help Wanted, and as I previously said, it has moral.
Bubblestand
Bubblestand, another S1 episode. Let's review it!
The episode is about another of SpongeBob's hobbies, bubble blowing. SpongeBob sets up his own business, a bubblestand. Patrick is his first customer, who isn't as good as SpongeBob in bubble blowing. SpongeBob tells him about a technique, that helps him. Due to the bubbles, Squidward has some troubles and he wants to know, how they making such a noise with bubbles. He tries to blow bubbles, but he can't because he isn't following the technique. When SpongeBob and Patrick insisted on using the technique, and Squidward creates a giant bubble. Squidward goes home, but bubble grabs his house and flights, and later bursts, so Squidward's house fell.
The episode is 5/9 - Good. Everything is fine, but I can't call the episode "Great", because there was nothing to make me do this. Some moments were fillers and repetitive, such as SpongeBob slowly kicked nail by a hammer, because Squidward told him. The episode is also not super-interesting, but overall, it's satisfactory.
I can't give such good recommendations for this episode, but it should be watched by newbies because this episode starts one of SpongeBob's hobbies, which later appears in many episodes through Season 11.
Ripped Pants
Let's talk about the episode, who makes different opinions for many SpongeBob fans, Ripped Pants. Does he deserve love or hate? Let's see!
This is the first episode, related to Tea at the Treedome. Also, good to note, there wasn't any episode, related to Help Wanted so far. Ripped Pants starts at the Goo Laguna, SpongeBob and Sandy are hanging out and laughing, when he arrives. I'm talking about Larry the Lobster. He invites them to weightlifting, showing his strength abilities, as well as Sandy also does this. However, SpongeBob isn't really good at this. When his pants were ripped, he quickly became popular and started to joke about his pants. At first, people, especially Sandy and Scooter, loved these jokes, but later they annoyed by this. SpongeBob even pretended to be down for a joke, making the beach disappointed. SpongeBob makes a plan, how to regain his popularity, and see - everyone left him. He thinks that he's the biggest loser at the beach, but there are also arrives people, who fired on the sun, dropped his buns in the sand, and the whale, who was buried in the send. I'd like to say that when I was small, I thought that losing a friend is not as bad as fried in the sun. But when I grew up, I changed my mind, because we don't have such many friends. SpongeBob sang a song and everyone came because SpongeBob understood his fault. He reunited with Sandy and got respect from Larry.
So, what about my opinion. The episode was annoying at some point because SpongeBob was trying to be popular and he was big-headed at those moments. However, I also think guys from the beach were annoying, because they tried to boast, how cool they are. I could give this episode 4/9 - Low Good, but the episode had a great song and moral, so I rated it 5/9 - Good.
I recommend this episode to many people, even for those, who aren't into SpongeBob, because it has a good lesson - be yourself and not boasting. The episode shows, friendship is very important, so don't lose your friend!
