Who's Afraid of Mr. Snippers? is a play written by Squidward and Plankton that appears in the episode of the same name.

Description

The play is longer than 56 pages and centers around its titular villain, Mr. Snippers (based on Mr. Krabs) along with his two employees: an artist (Squidward) and a shopkeeper (Plankton). The beginning of the play tells the story of the handsome and talented artist who struggles against Mr. Snippers, an angry and ruthless crab. The ending focuses on the nice and innocent shopkeeper who is tormented by Mr. Snippers. Notably, a scene on page 56 shows Mr. Snippers berating his two employees as they row on a Roman galley.

Role in episode

Squidward secretly visits the Chum Bucket, where he can peacefully continue writing his play, but he can't figure out how to end it. Plankton reveals that he's also working on his own play, but he's missing the beginning. By accident, the pages of the two scripts get mixed together, creating the final version of the play. Karen becomes the director and holds an audition with Squidward and Plankton to decide which of them should play the villain, Mr. Snippers. Eventually, she decides that neither of them is right for the role and that SpongeBob would be the perfect actor for it. However, SpongeBob struggles to relate to Mr. Snippers' evil personality, but with Karen's encouragement, he manages to play the role well. On the night of the play's premiere, Plankton notices that on the poster, Squidward's name is written in much bigger letters than his. During the performance, Plankton confronts Squidward about it, which turns into an argument and then a fight, until SpongeBob stops them with a touching speech, only for them to team up and beat him up instead.

Trivia

  • Its title is a reference to the play Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? by Edward Albee.
  • The play is based on Squidward and Plankton's own lives, with Mr. Snippers being inspired by Mr. Krabs' mean behavior toward them.
    • Ironically, Mr. Krabs completely disapproves of the villain and despises his evil personality.
