YTV

YTV is a Canadian English-language channel aimed at children, available nationwide in Canada. The channel is currently owned by Corus Entertainment. It was founded on September 1, 1988 by Rogers Media and CUC Broadcasting, and was then owned by Shaw Communications from 1995 until 1999, when it was acquired by Corus Entertaiment.

YTV, along with airing Canada's domestic productions, airs many programs from U.S. channels Nickelodeon, Disney Channel, and Cartoon Network. YTV is the main home of SpongeBob SquarePants in Canada, and the series has been a staple of the channel since its premiere on September 18, 1999.

YTV has a few exclusive events for SpongeBob SquarePants, including Sponge-Odd Square-Parents Day (FairlyOke SongPants Day in 2013), SpongeBob Showoff, and The Ultimate Bikini Bottom Buddy Search.

Starting on September 1, 2025, YTV will no longer rerun SpongeBob SquarePants as well as all other Nickelodeon programming, due to Corus Entertainment not renewing its rights to broadcast Nickelodeon programming on its channels due to budget issues. The series will still be carried on the Canadian Paramount+.

Trivia

General

• While some of season 3 was held off until 2003 and 2004 in the United States, YTV aired some of these episodes as early as November 2002.
• YTV still airs "Just One Bite" fully uncut, including the deleted scene.
• The channel only reruns season 3 and season 10 onwards as of 2022.
