Template:Italic title Template:Book Ain't Life a Beach is a 1999 press kit, and the earliest piece of SpongeBob SquarePants merchandise ever made. It was given to television industry employees in spring 1999 to coincide with the then-upcoming premiere of the series.
Because the kit was made before the show premiered, it is one of the rarest SpongeBob collectibles. Only a few photos are available online. It has been seen in the backgrounds of several DVD special features.
Characters
- Template:Data:Links
- Sandy Cheeks
- Mrs. Puff
- Patrick Star
- Squidward Tentacles
- Eugene H. Krabs
- Pearl Krabs
Content
The kit features early bios for the characters: Template:Data:Links, Template:Data:Links, Mrs. Puff, Template:Data:Links, Template:Data:Links, Template:Data:Links, and Template:Data:Links. It also includes synopses for several Template:Data:Links episodes, photo slides, and stickers.
It came in a dark blue folder decorated with a Hawaiian pattern and six of the characters' original model sheets. Pearl is the only character with a bio whose model sheet is not on the folder, presumably because she is much taller and wouldn't fit on the flap. Template:Data:Links, Template:Data:Links, and Template:Data:Links do not have bios.
Trivia
- In 2009, a tenth anniversary press kit was also made, titled 100,000,000 Fans Can't Be Wrong. Unlike the 1999 kit, it is much more widely available.
- In the existing photos of the kit, a bio for Stephen Hillenburg can be seen, which mentions both Karen Hillenburg and their son Clay.
