"Sun's Out, Fun's Out" is a Kamp Koral: SpongeBob's Under Years episode from season 1. In this episode, it's the hottest day of summer, but there's only one AC in the whole camp.

Synopsis

The episode begins on an incredibly hot day. Perch Perkins advises the campers to search for shade, and his microphone and watch tower catch on fire. Bubble Bass and his cabinmates fire a cannon at the Sun in an attempt to destroy it; however, their cannonball misses, and explodes the top of a volcano, which flies off and crushes them. In the Dinghies cabin, SpongeBob and Patrick use Patrick's tongue as a fan to cool themselves off, while Squidward meditates and visualizes cold objects. He is interrupted by Patrick, who begins licking him after he mentions ice cream. Sandy laughs, and explains that she is not hot because of a built-in air conditioner in her suit. When SpongeBob and Patrick go inside Sandy's suit, her air conditioner overloads and breaks.

The roof of the cabin catches on fire, and the campers run outside. SpongeBob and Patrick's feet are lit on fire by the hot sand, but Sandy is not bothered, since her boots are insulated. The two grab on to her helmet and go to the lake, which is boiling hot. After they all jump in, it evaporates. Squidward walks by, using a parasol to shield himself from the sun, and throws them some sunscreen. After they use it, there is none left for him. Squidward joins the campers in their search for shade, and they run under various cabins for shade, only to be kicked out by others who are already there.

They find a safe place under Camp Counselor Krabs' cabin. SpongeBob looks inside and sees that Krabs has a working air conditioner. SpongeBob knocks on the door, but gets no response. Squidward tries to break in, but burns his tentacles on the metal windows. Krabs opens the door, and cold air blows over the campers. He initially refuses to let him in, until Patrick comments that he would pay to go inside. The campers gather around Krabs' air conditioner, and after Krabs turns it up, the cabin is full of snow. SpongeBob, Squidward, Sandy, and Patrick all have a snowball fight, then sled down the stairs.

The campers are trapped inside.

The other campers notice that Krabs' cabin is now frosted over on the inside, and run up to the cabin. Krabs charges the campers to come in and cool off, only for the cabin to be completely overcrowded. The air conditioner breaks, and Krabs finds himself unable to get the door open. As the campers are panicking, SpongeBob tries to cheer them up with a campfire song, but is interrupted by Squidward.

Meanwhile, Plankton relaxes in a refrigerator in his kitchen, only for the motor inside to burn out. He goes to Krabs' office to complain, but notices that the doors are locked. To get in, Plankton squeezes through a small hole in the bottom of the cabin. He proves to be the last straw, causing the cabin to burst, and all the campers fly out. The broken AC flies through the air, landing on Bubble Bass's cannon, which fires. The cannonball flies directly into the sun, causing it to shatter and night falls. The campers cheer, but then are left in complete darkness. SpongeBob says that he is cold and asks Krabs for a blanket, which Krabs charges him for.

David Shair:

• Shair called Brandon Warren "an expert lifeguard," (supervising director) "supervising my first dip in the SpongeBob pool!"
  • This means that this was David Shair's first work for the SpongeBob franchise. He also provided plussing work on "Potato Puff," "Say Awww!," "Shrinking Stars," "First and Last Aid," "Night of the Living Stench," and "Olly Olly Organ Free."

Brandon Warren:

• Warren said that "the goal of the opening scene was to show that the weather at Kamp Koral is unbearably hot" and "how miserable it is for the campers in the funniest and most entertaining way possible."
