Although primarily a 2D animated series, SpongeBob SquarePants occasionally includes stop motion and live-action puppet animated elements within the show.

The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie

  • In the song "Goofy Goober Rock", SpongeBob descends a claymation Earth, then the Earth turns into a stop-motion SpongeBob head.

Season 5

  • "Friend or Foe" - All of Potty the Parrot's appearances were filmed, while the hamburger saying "Ahoy!" was the only stop-motion part made in the episode.
  • "Atlantis SquarePantis" - All of Potty the Parrot's appearances were filmed in live-action.

Season 6

  • "Truth or Square" - The theme song was reanimated in stop-motion, not only in widescreen and all of Potty the Parrot's appearances were filmed mostly in live-action.

The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water

  • All of Bubbles' appearances, except for the ending.

The Patrick Star Show

  • "Stair Wars" - The cutaway.
  • "Pat-a-thon" - The cutaway.
  • "Terror at 20,000 Leagues" - The whole episode is uses 2D animation and stop-motion scenes at some points, but blends in once Patrick (in 2D form) enters the stop-motion segment.

Trivia

  • Seasons 1, 4, and 9 are the currently the only seasons not to have any stop-motion or live-action puppetry scenes following the absences of Patchy and Potty in Seasons 4 and 9, while they didn't appear in Season 1 at the time the show came out.
