— Madame Hagfish, "The Curse of the Hex"
|
Madame Hagfish is an old hagfish who first appears in the episode "The Curse of the Hex."
Description
She has a lavender eel-like body like a real hagfish. She has teal fins on the tip of her tail and her upper arm.
Clothing-wise, she wears a tattered dark burgundy shawl tied in the front. On her upper body she has a bunch of warts throughout her whole face, pinkish-purple dried out lips, wrinkled under-eyes, a pair of glasses lined with a gold rim with gold hoop earrings, and light blue lenses.
Her hair is styled curled up into bunches and cone-shaped on either side of her head. She also wears a light green cloth bandana on top of her head.
Personality
She is nice to Bikini Bottomites who help her, but she appears to be hostile to those who do not help her. She is also shown to deeply despise the negative portrayal of sea hags she sees in entertainment, stating that sea hags are more than just hex-casting monsters while also admitting that her own penchant for casting hexes doesn't help the stereotype.
Role in series
SpongeBob SquarePants
"The Curse of the Hex"
She enters the Krusty Krab and spews slime in front of Squidward. The latter refuses to give her a Krabby Patty since these type of burgers have gone up in cost since she had been there before and Madame Hagfish only uses a couple of shells as money. She later puts a curse on the restaurant. A curse shows no sign of any customers, plates falling without big thumps, and dollars on fire and tore apart showing it catches on fire again. She has a lot of slime on her body that way she can suffocate her prey like regular hagfish.
SpongeBob and Mr. Krabs both go to Madame Hagfish's magic wheel wagon house to tell her to put the curse away. To put said curse away of the Krusty Krab, SpongeBob and Mr. Krabs are sent to get her the golden doubloon that was stolen by the giant golden eel. SpongeBob and Mr. Krabs then enter the golden eel's cave and they see the eel sleeping. SpongeBob slips on its leftover pudding/green slime and the eel wakes up. The giant golden eel grabs Mr. Krabs and starts strangling him. SpongeBob touches the eel softly and it drops off Mr. Krabs and is touched again by SpongeBob and spits out the doubloon.
SpongeBob and Mr. Krabs return and give the doubloon to Madame Hagfish and she puts it in the washing machine to clean her clothes. It shows that the Krusty Krab curse was a "closed" sign that was standing outside for a long time. The "curse" is lifted and customers visit the Krusty Krab. However, the giant golden eel appears again and goes on a rampage.
"Captain Pipsqueak"
She is seen auditioning for E.V.I.L.
The Patrick Star Show
"Terror at 20,000 Leagues"
After a Quasar movie, a commercial for Madame Hagfish's Were-Hair Boutique comes on. She details her services, then throws a dance party with the werewolves and groomers.
"Something Stupid This Way Comes"
As a fortune teller, Madame Hagfish tries to tell Patrick his future, telling stories of Pat-Tron, Pat the Hapless, and Pat-gor respectively, but Patrick is left unsatisfied because ice cream is in none of them. She then gets Pat the Hapless to make him ice cream out of the Star family's heads.

She later appears at the mouth of the cave the trio need to enter to search for precious metal, becoming their guide and getting them pass the giant spider Ignatius after they give her the golden doubloon from the giant golden eel.
She reappears in the "Doom Tower" level where she gives SpongeBob, Patrick and Squidly the ropes they need to fix the bridges after they give her lava rocks, and later gives them planks for the bridges after they give her another golden doubloon.

Stage Fright!
While SpongeBob and Sandy are investigating the sabotaging of director Martin Dorado's show, they learn that Madame Hagfish complained about the show's sea hag-themed musical number and threatened to place a hex on the production unless it was removed. Traveling to her wagon to question her, she admits that while she did complain about the show's inaccurate portrayal of sea hags, she has also been holed up in her wagon for the past two weeks nursing her pet sea cockroach Chester back to health, proving her innocence.
