Tube Newb is the second comic strip in SpongeBob Comics No. 84.

Synopsis

SpongeBob is invited by Sandy and Patrick to visit the Bikini Bottom Tubing Co. Sandy asks where SpongeBob's gear is, and he does not have any. Larry gets SpongeBob fit with a set of tubing gear, including a "pushing stick" to prevent him from getting stuck. SpongeBob points out how expensive the gear is, which is because Mr. Krabs is a partial owner of the Tubing Co.

SpongeBob, Patrick, and Sandy have a relaxing time tubing down the river at first. However, they come across some intense rapids. SpongeBob gets stuck between two rocks, and calls for help. Sandy cannot hear him due to singing a country tubing ballad, and Patrick's head is underwater. Two hillbillies make fun of SpongeBob, so he takes out his pushing stick to get free, but struggles. Finally, he frees himself, although he pops his tube in the process. He washes up on his back next to Patrick and Sandy.

Suddenly, Larry warns the tubers about a creek wave. Patrick and Sandy make it to shore. The wave crashes over SpongeBob, and to everyone's surprise, he reappears expertly surfing on the top of it. SpongeBob says that his pushing stick came in handy after all. They congratulate him, while Mr. Krabs is about to upcharge him for the popped tube.
