So lately I believe the current state of the naming policy for the incidentals is starting to get out of hand, primarily because of this one. There are currently too many restrictions on the naming policy and it makes the consistency of the other incidental pages look very off, like how certain incidentals like Incidental 41 are named after their model number and how others like Sadie aka Incidental 47 are not. It is also currently very confusing and complex to explain why certain incidentals go by a name while others go by their model number, which will especially be confusing for newer users. I believe we need to keep the restrictions light on the naming policy so we can keep it a lot more simple and less complex.
I believe what we should do is only used consistently used names as main names for the incidentals. And by consistently I mean the said name must be used in at least two episodes, shorts, movies, etc. The credits and storyboards for the following would also apply as sources for consistency. I also believe that main console games such as Battle for Bikini Bottom or Employee of the Month (video game) should count as sources for consistency as well while mobile games such as SpongeBob QuestPants games or SpongeBob Simulator should not count as sources for consistency due to the fact that they are known for plagiarizing false names from this wiki, this also applies to other certain media that has also plagiarized false information as well. For example: Incidental 6 would be named Tom due to the fact he has been given that name in Patty Hype and The Cosmic Shake and Don the Whale aka Incidental 32 would keep his name due to the name being used in MuscleBob BuffPants and Lights, Camera, Pants! I feel that these characters are the ones worthy of keeping their names, as well as characters whose names are considered to be confirmed by crew members.
Another reason I’d like to point out on why we should do this is the constant name changing. Ever since the naming policy for the incidentals came into action, there has been a slight increase in name changing for the regular incidentals. Don’t get me wrong on this, article names change all the time, but the way I see it, we still want to try our best to keep it to a minimum, and mainly naming incidentals after single given names fails to keep name changing to a minimum because every time they would gain a second name or if currently unnamed incidentals were to gain a name, we would have to go through a hassle of changing the article's name as well as updating all the links to the article. These incidentals appear in almost every episode so it would be a huge hassle to update all those links every time their name gets changed. If we were to mainly name them after their consistently used names instead, the chances of their names being changed would be much slimmer. To think their names have a chance of changing all the time can be quite frustrating. However, the non-regular incidentals ("Teen" incidentals, "F" incidentals, "Jellyfish geek G" incidentals, etc.), the unnumbered incidentals, and other minor characters like Tattoo Terry aka the tattoo thug can be an exception from this policy and continue to be named after their single given names since they appear a lot less often than the regular incidentals, which would mean this policy would only affect the regular incidentals.
Hopefully this proposal will make the incidental naming policy a lot more simple and less complex from now on. As well as improving the consistency and reduce the name changes in articles. Incidental 42
