Mark Zoeller

Mark Robert Zoeller (born June 6, 1964; age 61) is a SpongeBob SquarePants storyboard artist for the film The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run.

Biography

Other than the aforementioned film, he has worked on various other films, such as Rumble and Barbie in the Pink Shoes. In 1996, he was a winner of a daytime Emmy, shared with 17 other people. He has also worked on the TV series Family Guy, Animaniacs, and Mad Jack the Pirate.

This is a list of instances where two characters of SpongeBob SquarePants meet for the first time. Characters' first meetings are an important element of the series that establish relationships.

• Patrick:
  • "The Secret Box" shows that Patrick and SpongeBob have known each other since they were both babies. According to the flashback in the episode, they were best friends as babies in a crib and continue their friendship as young children, adults, and senior citizens.
  • However, this was contradicted in The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run when SpongeBob and Patrick met as children at Kamp Koral; it's possible the flashback of the two as babies took place in SpongeBob's imagination or they were too young to remember when they first met.
• Squidward -
  • "Truth or Square" shows that Squidward met SpongeBob when a pineapple fell from a boat and landed on Conch Street. SpongeBob and Squidward all have their standard appearances in the flashback; Squidward may have known SpongeBob before he moved to Bikini Bottom, as the former fry cook at the Krusty Krab was named Not SpongeBob.
  • In The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run, Squidward meets SpongeBob as children at Kamp Koral.
• Mr. Krabs - Mr. Krabs' first meeting with SpongeBob is unknown. SpongeBob already knows Mr. Krabs' name in "Help Wanted."
• Plankton - "Plankton!" is the first time SpongeBob meets Plankton. They first encounter each other when SpongeBob is walking home at night and hears an unknown voice demanding his attention. He has no idea where it is coming from and walks closer to find the person until he accidentally steps on him. The person calling his name is then revealed to be Plankton, whom SpongeBob removes from the bottom of his shoe. Plankton then positions himself on SpongeBob's palm and tries persuading him into giving him the Krabby Patty secret formula in exchange for a golden spatula. SpongeBob is not fooled and sees through his deception, realizing that Plankton plans on using him to get the formula.
• Karen - "Plankton!" is the first time SpongeBob meets Karen. He sees her in Plankton's lab room as he is manipulated into dropping a Krabby Patty into her ingredient analyzer.
• Sandy - "Tea at the Treedome" is the first time SpongeBob meets Sandy. He meets her at Jellyfish Fields after witnessing her fight a giant clam. The two quickly befriend each other due to their shared love of karate, and Sandy invites SpongeBob over to her house for tea and cookies. This is retconned in Kamp Koral: SpongeBob's Under Years, where SpongeBob has met Sandy as a young child.
• Mrs. Puff - Mrs. Puff's first meeting with SpongeBob is shown in a flashback in "Doing Time."
• Pearl - Pearl's first meeting with SpongeBob is unknown. SpongeBob already knows Pearl's name in "The Chaperone."
• Gary - "Treats!" reveals that SpongeBob first adopted Gary at the local pound when Gary was a baby snail. However, "Plankton's Pet" contradicts this by having SpongeBob state that he adopted Gary at the local animal shelter. The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run contradicts both of these instances by showing young SpongeBob at Camp Coral having met Gary there in a flashback.

• Patrick and Squidward - Patrick and Squidward already knew each other in Camp Coral, but they were already neighbors in the flashback of "Truth or Square."
• Patrick and Sandy - "Tea at the Treedome" shows Patrick and Sandy meeting for the first time. Although Sandy refers to her and SpongeBob as "new friends" at the end while serving them tea through their water helmets, Patrick and Sandy were never properly introduced to each other in the episode.
• Patrick and Mrs. Puff - "New Student Starfish" shows Patrick and Mrs. Puff meeting for the first time when he decides he wants to attend boating school with SpongeBob.
• Squidward and Pearl - "Whale Watching" reveals that Squidward has been babysitting for Pearl since she was a baby.
• Mr. Krabs and Plankton - "Friend or Foe" reveals that Mr. Krabs and Plankton have known each other since they were babies, as they were born on the same day.
• Mr. Krabs and Karen - It is assumed that Mr. Krabs met Karen when Plankton first built her as a security system, as mentioned in "Friend or Foe."
• Mr. Krabs and Mrs. Puff - "Krusty Love" shows Mr. Krabs and Mrs. Puff meeting for the first time.
• Mr. Krabs and Pearl - "Whale of a Birthday" reveals that Mr. Krabs, like most parents, met Pearl when she was first born. He mentions that he got her a birthday banner on the day she was born.
• Plankton and Karen - "Friend or Foe" reveals that Plankton built Karen as a security system when he was young. Karen says, "Plankton and I met when he installed me."

Patchy as a kid with Potty in an egg

• Patchy the Pirate:
  • For a long time, he never successfully met SpongeBob, but came close to it. In "Party Pooper Pants," SpongeBob receives Patchy's invitation but can't read it, and in "Truth or Square," Patchy imagines meeting SpongeBob in a dream. Finally, by "SpongeBob's Big Birthday Blowout," he meets SpongeBob by sending him his head in a box as a birthday present. He met SpongeBob again, this time with Potty in "SpongeBob's Road to Christmas" alongside Patrick and Plankton.
  • In "Feral Friends," Patchy sees Pearl but does not know her name. He is also shown to be a good friend of the French Narrator already.
  • In "Friend or Foe," it is shown that Patchy has known Potty the Parrot since Potty was an unhatched baby egg.
• French Narrator:
  • SpongeBob and Mrs. Puff first interact with him in "No Free Rides."
  • He knows Sandy and Patchy in "Feral Friends."
• Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy:
  • They first meet SpongeBob and Patrick in "Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy."
• King Neptune:
  • He first meets SpongeBob and Patrick in "Neptune's Spatula."
• Larry the Lobster:
  • He seemingly knows SpongeBob in "Ripped Pants," but this is contradicted in "Pet or Pests," where Larry the Lobster asks SpongeBob "Do I know you?" and SpongeBob replies "Probably not."

Trivia

• The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run and a spin-off titled Kamp Koral: SpongeBob's Under Years are an "origin story" showing how SpongeBob met his friends at summer camp.

Role in episode

When SpongeBob decides to clean up all of the clutter in Mrs. Puff's lighthouse, there seems to be a newspaper stating some important information about a woman who goes by "Bobbi Blowfish." This frame with the newspaper was only apart of the original storyboard though.

The news paper is seen for a single frame in the season 12 episode "Lighthouse Louie." The paper shows the words "Deranged Boat Teacher Makes Getaway" as it's heading and a sentence underneath stating that the boat teacher uses balloon animals to distract authorities. The paper also states that the deranged boat teacher is a woman named "Bobbi Blowfish" who looks very similar to Mrs. Puff.

• There have been many theories where people think that Bobbi Blowfish is truly Mrs. Puff.

• The 1,000-yard stare is a condition that appears in the episode "The Krusty Sponge." It occurs when the patient is very worried about something.

Signs and symptoms

The patient begins to stare for a long time due to the shock and the body freezes in one position. Shaking can also follow. The patient shows no response to physical contact, as shown when Squidward pokes SpongeBob directly in the eye and SpongeBob shows no reaction.

Treatment

There is no known treatment, but the condition along with its symptoms seem to go away over time.

SpongeBob gets the disease because he is concerned about Gene Scallop's impending visit to the Krusty Krab. Squidward notices SpongeBob is not taking the customers' orders and tries to get him to snap out of his trance. After Mr. Krabs finds out SpongeBob has the disease, he says that he once had the 1,000-yard stare when he was in the Navy. Later, Mr. Krabs also contracts the disease after he too finds out Gene Scallop is visiting the restaurant.

• "Bad Slide" is a sample from the ProjectSAM Symphobia Colours: Animator sound set. The main instruments played in the sample include trumpets, trombones, a tuba, a bass clarinet, a snare drum, and various sound effects.
