SpongeBob is jellyfishing. Some men on motorcycles drive past him, and SpongeBob holds on to one of the men's jackets, ripping a 'W' off of the jacket. He looks at the jacket when he has to let go of it. He presumes it says 'The ild Ones', but he soon notices the 'W' in his hand and figures out that they are called 'The Wild Ones'. After someone tells him about the Wild Ones, SpongeBob runs to tell Mr. Krabs (actually, SpongeBob "takes the shortcut, which is a piggyback ride on a bubble). He does not listen, so he tells Patrick. Mr Krabs puts up a banner saying 'WELCOME WILD ONES!' on the Krusty Krab and raises his prices in order to get them to eat there after hearing SpongeBob escribes them as "ravenous". After Patrick says that if they dressed up like bikers, they would be the big scary bikers, SpongeBob and Patrick decide to dress in biker attire and ride into town on a paddle-unicycle and a paddle-tricycle, respectively. After the bikers arrive at The Krusty Krab, it turns out that they are old folk. The actual name of the biker gang is 'The Mild Ones'. SpongeBob had the 'M' upside-down. The biker that had the "M" ripped off of his jacket gets his "M" back from SpongeBob, and The Mild Ones ride away. Shortly after this, it is revealed that Squidward decided to go with them.

After Patrick says that if they dressed up like bikers, they would be the big scary bikers, SpongeBob and Patrick decide to dress in biker attire and ride into town on a paddle-unicycle and a paddle-tricycle, respectively. *Throughout the episode, if one were to pause the screen image and look closely whenever the bikers pass the screen, the bikers are clearly shown to be seniors.
*This is the second episode for a few things:
**The second episode where a shortcut to the Krusty Krab is shown, the first being "Wormy."
**The second episode to show blood. The first is "Dying for Pie."
**The second episode to reference Goofy Goober outside of the first movie. The first is the Goofy Goober back scratcher in "Chimps Ahoy."
*This is the first episode where Vincent Waller is portrayed, having his voice used for the several fishes and the second clam.

**Telling Squidward that he accidentally removed the "Do Not Remove by Penalty of Law" tag on his mattress and begs him to hide him.
***In reality, the mattress tag can be removed by the consumer after it's bought, newer mattresses added "unless by consumer" due to confusion.

Cultural references
*The first day this episode and Best Frenemies first aired, it was rated TV-Y. Later airings are TV-Y7, as it should be.
*The title of this episode is a reference to the 1968 song "Born to Be Wild" by the rock band Steppenwolf (band). The song also served as the theme song for the 1969 motorcycle-themed film Easy Rider.
*The farmer in the begining resembles Mario slightly.
*SpongeBob and Patrick's biker outfits, as are an inspiration from the 1953 film, The Wild One.
*A similar situation was used in a 2007 film, Wild Hogs.
**The mistaken name of the group, "The Wild Ones," is a reference to the film as well.
*The title is of course a reference to the song from the film Easy Rider, Born to Be Wild.
**The Mild Ones may have been a reference to the film's Black Rebels Motorcycle Club as well, as the members of the club would've been old by this point in time.
*Once again, Patrick is seen wearing different clothes on a non-fancy occasion, with one of the first being in My Pretty Seahorse.
*The way Patrick left running this is a simiar way how the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mario did it in Meets the Strangler.
*Patrick's Goofy Goober underwear can be seen.

*Patrick and SpongeBob are chopped up by a lawn mower into tiny stars and tiny sponge cubes.

*When SpongeBob takes the "shortcut", he breaks the fourth wall by riding the scene changer.

SpongeBob and Patrick wearing their biker outfits.
  • SpongeBob's biker outfit consists of:
    • A red and white-striped long sleeved top
    • A denim waistcoat
    • Jeans
    • Brown work boots
    • A round helmet with a spike and a skull.
  • Patrick is seen wearing his Goofy Goober underwear from The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie.
  • Patrick's biker outfit consists of:
    • A yellowish T-shirt
    • A black leather jacket with a high collar
    • Blue denim shorts with a big belt with a skull on it
    • And a black cap.
      • His bike is a paddle-tricycle.
  • Old Man Jenkins is one of The Mild Ones.
  • Throughout the episode, if one were to pause the screen image and look closely whenever the bikers pass the screen, the bikers are clearly shown to be seniors.
  • This is the second episode for a few things:
    • The second episode where a shortcut to the Krusty Krab is shown, the first being "Wormy."
    • The second episode to show blood. The first is "Dying for Pie."
    • The second episode to reference Goofy Goober outside of the first movie. The first is the Goofy Goober back scratcher in "Chimps Ahoy."
  • This is the first episode where Vincent Waller is portrayed, having his voice used for the several fishes and the second clam.
  • This is the third episode where the letters W and M are switched around, the first being "Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy IV," and the second being "No Weenies Allowed."
  • The things that SpongeBob has been telling Squidward while overreacting are:
    • Telling Squidward that they're out of napkins.
    • Telling Squidward that he accidentally removed the "Do Not Remove by Penalty of Law" tag on his mattress and begs him to hide him.
      • In reality, the mattress tag can be removed by the consumer after it's bought, newer mattresses added "unless by consumer" due to confusion.
    • Telling Squidward that he's gone blind, but it's really just that the light has been turned off.
  • This is the last episode to use the production track "Grass Skirts Blowing (Hilo March)."

Cultural references

  • The title of this episode is a reference to the 1968 song "Born to Be Wild" by the rock band Steppenwolf. The song also served as the theme song for the 1969 motorcycle-themed film Easy Rider.
  • SpongeBob and Patrick's biker outfits, as are an inspiration from the 1953 film, The Wild One.
    • The mistaken name of the group, "The Wild Ones," is a reference to the film as well.
    • The Mild Ones may have been a reference to the film's Black Rebels Motorcycle Club as well, as the members of the club would've been old by this point in time.

Errors

  • The bike rack that Mr. Krabs shows to SpongeBob appears in front of the Krusty Krab. However, in other scenes, the bike rack is gone.

We walk the walk mistake.

Another we walk the walk mistake.
  • Right before SpongeBob says, "we walk the walk," for one frame the whites in SpongeBob's eyes are completely yellow and one of his legs is missing.
    • During that scene SpongeBob's teeth turn yellow for a split second.

The Mile Ones.
  • Right before the Mild Ones drive around Squidward, some of the men's jackets say "Mile Ones" instead of "Mild Ones."
