Mascot Mayhem

"Mascot Mayhem" is a Kamp Koral: SpongeBob's Under Years episode from season 2. In this episode, SpongeBob and Patrick compete to become Kamp Koral's mascot.

Synopsis

Perch announces tryouts to be the new Kamp Koral mascot, Bitey the Sea Bear. SpongeBob camps out in the line for auditions, but Patrick says he wants the position as well. They agree not to let the competition get in the way of their friendship. However, it turns out SpongeBob put his tent at the end of the line, which Bubble Bass mocks him for.

The auditions begin, with Mr. Krabs and Mrs. Puff as the judges. Bubble Bass attempts reading a monologue while juggling swords, which backfires. The next auditionees include Roxy, Tall Tail, and various anchovies, all of whom are judged badly.

SpongeBob is declared the winner.

SpongeBob and Patrick, the last auditionees left, decide to go at the same time. SpongeBob does a dance routine to some music, impressing Mrs. Puff. Krabs, however, likes Patrick's comedy. They are put through more trials to see who gets the position, being forced through to wear heavy sacks and navigate an obstacle course. Both of them make it, so Krabs and Puff pick SpongeBob at random. Patrick storms off, angry.

During the basketball game, SpongeBob wears the Bitey costume. He begins to get nervous until Krabs reassures him people are only there for the free hot dogs. SpongeBob does a cheer routine until Perch is informed of a mascot challenger: Outie the Outhouse, who rides in on a motorcycle and wins the crowd over. The stunt ends with the door opening to reveal Patrick. SpongeBob looks in and Patrick says he couldn't accept the loss.

SpongeBob and Patrick each do different stunts to get the audience's attention. Patrick begins shredding a Goofy Goober guitar, impressing the audience. SpongeBob takes some jellyfish out of a hive, which a real sea bear takes notice of. He plays the jellyfish like drums, splattering jelly all over his costume. This makes the bear grab him to lick the jelly off. Patrick takes the bear and defeats it by wrapping it in toilet paper. SpongeBob is thankful that Patrick saved him and Krabs declares Outie the new mascot, to everyone's joy.

Production

This episode was confirmed on December 9, 2022, after storyboard artist Leo Garcia was asked via e-mail for samples of his work that were later publicly posted.

According to the metadata of the files on John John Bajet's website, this episode was in the color design stage by February 25, 2023.

The episode's packaging number and plot were later officially confirmed on December 25, 2023.
