"My Friend Patty" is a SpongeBob SquarePants episode from season 13. In this episode, SpongeBob befriends a sentient Krabby Patty whose only wish is to be eaten.

Sandy shows up at the Krusty Krab to show off her latest invention, the Anthropomorphizer. She demonstrates by bringing salt and pepper to life, and they do a dance on the table. amazing the customers. SpongeBob gets the idea to bring a Krabby Patty to life, which Sandy proves able to do. He is excited to spend time with it and show it what he likes to do for fun.

SpongeBob takes the Krabby Patty to Jellyfish Fields, and is about to give it its own small net. However, another jellyfisher's worm is trying to eat the patty, and SpongeBob takes it back. He brings it to Goofy Goober's Ice Cream Party Boat, where after his order arrives, Goofy Goober is trying to eat the patty. SpongeBob leaves and apologizes to the patty for everyone trying to eat it. However, it admits that it was willingly putting itself in their mouths to be eaten, to SpongeBob's horror.

The Krabby Patty runs off into a daycare center and tries to get the babies to eat it. SpongeBob jumps in and fights them off to keep the patty safe, only for the daycare's owner to kick him out. The patty runs past the Chum Bucket and tries to force itself into Plankton's mouth, and SpongeBob takes it back.

As SpongeBob takes the patty back to the Krusty Krab, it confesses that letting people eat it is what would make it happy, just like how SpongeBob enjoys serving patties. SpongeBob decides to hold auditions to find the perfect person to eat it. However, everyone who applies ends up disgusting the patty. Sandy comes by and suggests that SpongeBob eat the patty himself, which it agrees to.

Before SpongeBob can put it in his mouth, Bubble Bass interrupts and declares that he deserves it more. The customers get into a fight, and the patty slips away, only to be eaten by Gary the Snail. Enraged, Bubble Bass blames Sandy for creating the problem in the first place. Sandy brings a barrel to life with her Anthropomorphizer, and is chased out of the restaurant.

Trivia

General

  • SpongeBob has previously befriended a personified Krabby Patty in "To Love a Patty" that he named "Patty." However, the Krabby Patty in that episode does not have any form of sentience.
    • Similar to that episode, SpongeBob goes to extreme lengths to defend his edible friend. In the season 5 episode, he murders clams to protect the Krabby Patty, and in this episode, he carelessly tosses and pushes around babies to protect it.
  • This episode initially had the packaging code of 290b, but was later switched around with "Gary's Playhouse," likely due to it being completed first.[2]
    • Vincent Waller said that the crew had to "move some episodes around to make room for an extended episode and a short," so this episode may have been one of them.[citation needed]
  • This episode was set to unofficially debut on Nickelodeon on July 2, 2023 at 7:30am,[9] but it was quickly shafted for a rerun of "Gary's Got Legs," likely being a scheduling error.[10]
  • This episode was originally scheduled to premiere at 1:00 pm, but was moved to 5:00 pm.
  • Starting in this episode, Stephanie Gladden and Shakeh Haghnazarian being the only character designers remain in the credits.
  • This episode was paired up with a broadcast of Nickelodeon's "No Apologies" music video and a rerun of "Plankton and the Beanstalk" during the original American airing.[11]
  • A clip from this episode was used in SpongeBob Universe premiere week promo on June 29, 2023.
  • Dave Cunningham previously directed an episode starring a sentient Krabby Patty with "Dream Hoppers."
    • Dan Becker (the storyboard director of this episode) had previously animated a sentient burger in March 2020. Both Krabby Patty and Becker's cheeseburger feature eyeballs above their face.[12]
  • This episode has the most amount of different voice roles for Tom Kenny of any episode in the franchise, with him voicing 15 characters.
    • It is also the episode where Carolyn Lawrence has the most voice roles, with her voicing 8 characters.
  • In the UK and Ireland, the flashing frames during the scene where the man and his worm get stung by jellyfish are cut, to prevent seizures for viewers.[13]

Errors

  • The fin lines on Incidental 19's leg and arm are missing while she kicks SpongeBob and the Krabby Patty out of the Daycare center.
