SpongeBob SquarePants has had various cereals, based on the series of the same name, released throughout the years. The first cereal, simply named "SpongeBob SquarePants cereal," was released in 2004 by Kellogg's. It had jellyfish-shaped cereal pieces and marshmallows in the shapes of SpongeBob, Patrick, and a pineapple. Later in the same year, Kellogg's re-released the same cereal, this time to promote The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie. This version added a new Plankton marshmallow piece and changed the design of the box. In 2014, General Mills released "SpongeBob SquarePants Fruity Splash" cereal to promote The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water. This cereal was fruit flavored without marshmallows. In 2020, Kellogg's re-released again the cereal from 2004 to promote The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run, changing the jellyfish-shaped pieces to regular Kellogg's pieces.
