Whoopie cushion
“ | ” | |
A whoopie cushion is a practical joke device involving flatulence humor, which produces a noise resembling a "raspberry" or flatulence. It first appears in the episode "Fools in April."
Description
Whoopie cushions are made from two sheets of rubber that are glued together at the edges. There is a small opening with a flap at one end for air to enter and leave the cushion. In most episodes, they are red or pink, although the one shown in "Fools in April" is green.
Role in series
"Fools in April"
Mr. Krabs takes a seat on his office chair and hears a flatulence noise when he sits down. SpongeBob had put the whoopie cushion there as an April Fool's prank.
"Pranks a Lot"
This is one of the novelty items offered by Frank when SpongeBob and Patrick are looking for the best gag in stock to prank all of Bikini Bottom with, but none of them interest them until Frank suggests Invisible Spray.
At the end of the episode, when Mr. Krabs shines spotlight on SpongeBob and Patrick to showcase the "live nude pranksters" at the Krusty Krab as a comeuppance for scaring everybody in town, SpongeBob tells Patrick in regret that they should have just bought the whoopie cushion.
"Funny Pants"
After Squidward tells SpongeBob that excessive laughter will cause permanent loss of his laugh box, SpongeBob tries his best to control his laughter. After leaving work, he encounters a whole street of whoopie cushions from a crashed whoopie cushion truck and tries to avoid stepping on them, to no avail, so he runs away to avoid laughing from the humorous nature of the object.
"Lost and Found"
When SpongeBob is in the Krusty Krab's Lost and Found, he finds a bunch of whoopie cushions on the ground and performs a Latin musical number with them while playing with a rubber chicken.
Lost Treasures
They are scattered throughout the levels. If SpongeBob walks onto one, it will produce a flatulence noise.
